Even all belongs to same company, there business model and technology differs. I don't see a point whats wrong if it has more hosting companies. All we need is how that particular company serves customers. If i want to buy IPO of HG yes i should look in to its mother and parent companies. For having an account i personally don't do all these research.

i think the majority of the users say host gator because its popular

I love hostgator. I pay through the nose for their dedicated servers (just under 400$ per server) but I pay for the professionalism, zero downtime, fast response via chat or phone and respect of privacy. They have helped me on every issue no matter how mundane or complex and when I did have an issue with their support they were more than willing to come up with a resolution that was satisfactory.

Go hostgator

Well, that's not a news, I have mentioned this already on BHW but no one cares. The thing is , if the same company own Pepsi and Coke, what can you expect when it comes to hosting? A group of people is holding all the companies...The thing is, you didn't dig deep enough.
It is not Endurance International Group a real owner, you didn't dig deep enough...dig deeper and I bet you will reach Rockefeller or some of his friends

LOL, are you trying to promote pesi and coke now?

I have been with Hostgator since I started. I don't see why you don't want us to recommend Hostgator, yes the parent company is just the same as others but the hardware is different I am sure. I am not sure if you have just found out about the parent company and got mad at them.

What is the point of this thread? If people have used HG, and enjoyed the experience, they have every right to voice that. Excepting that issue, what you seem to be targeting is just post length - not what the person is actually talking about.

If I made a post like "I use GoDaddy, they're the best," or "I use ShamelessPlug Hosting Company, they're the best," would I get an infraction? Why is HG being targeted, specifically?

I've used HostGator for years and the only time I've ever had a problem is when they were switching hardware, and that lasted all of a few hours. This thread seems like less of a sincere administrative rule/guideline and more of a personal agenda.

Let people have their opinions.

On WHT there's this one guy who kept bashing EIG and that's how i know those company that's under them.

It's not comforting at all, if the owner of a host has no interest on customers. There may be a lucky few who had good experience, but if there's 3/4 complains on the www it usually means they're not doing well.

I speak out of experience, those sites hosted on HG and whatever under EIG, they're slow.

Stated it many times before, it's TEH BHW REGIME 2.0 BETA!!!!!!1111```1

Anyways, I think it's far from fair to take someones opinion, even if a company has done something bad. As we all can read on BHW, there are loads of honest (because they come from reputable members, that makes it honest, right BHW?!) reviews about HG.

Only issues I ever had was with GD, and no way I'd liked to see them banned from a (internet related) place like this because someone had a bad experience. Loads of good ones between them which isn't crazy, because hosting websites isn't fucking science.

This is my last month with Hostgator. used them for 3 years. They are slow, very very slow. support has become crap. They do not accept that problem is from their side so forget about solving the problem.

While current customers are welcome to discuss problems at HostGator etc in this section, promoting HostGator is now Prohibited!

If we see anyone posting 3 word replies recommending HostGator from now on, you will be issued a infraction.

I really don't understand why so much rage on the Host Gator itself, while the problem is not the Host Gator but the problem is user (who maybe foolish, or maybe paid by HostGator, or maybe don't know about other hosting, or maybe just plain prefer HG). I support you in giving infraction for "3 word replies" recommending HostGator, but why prohibiting to promote HostGator?

If I have no problem with HostGator, should I came here just to discuss its problems?
I personally use HostGator for some of my sites (less than 5%) but I find them just adequate. Not very good, but definitely not bad.
If I say that I prefer Coke than Diet Coke, should my preference of Coke invalidates my statement, just because Coke and Diet Coke is made by the same company?

I fully support to weed out people who promotes shamelessly, but forbidding people to promote a product is difficult to accept.
Moreover, people may promote hosgator because they like it. Or they find it easy. Or they find its customer support helpful. Or they find Host Gator first. Or their IM guru teach it to them. I don't know, but I don't think Host Gator is paying some random people to promote their hosting on sites like this.

I didn't see the prohibition of promoting them before when I posted, and I'm curious to know why.

HG is fine for you to use, no one cares what you do, but stating you use HG is an automatic warning flag for a bunch of people who work online. If you have to ask why, you know you're new. They are budget and cut rate, and make up for that by having customer service. Product doesn't cut it? Make sure you do something well. And throw the little people a $1 deal, they love that, especially when they ask "How do I invest $5-$50?" If you cannot afford a better host, cannot be bothered to find a better host, do not care that they oversell and put a lot of shoddy sites on the same neighborhood as yours, get entire IP blocks blacklisted, and have questionable affiliate practices, that's fine. I'm sure you can convince the newer breed of IMers and clients, but not people who have been there-done that and run who away from HG, ipage, intuit, GD, bluehost, fatcow(heard they're dropping rank), justhost.

But, what is the reason for the prohibition? Are they xrumer blasting BHW? Or is it the case of "yeah. .i use gsa and snuke. is great for build backlink 2.0s to get social signals" newbie parrot flooding?

its true BUT.. hostgator usues native cpanel accounts while ie fatcow uses some shady shit i cant understand working of.
that why i could say HG is cool, while fatcow is not even tho servers are same - but panels are waaay different and pissing me off

The title of this thread is probably a bit of a stretch.

But it's worth mentioning that these companies are owned by the same company; it's a very common misconception.

No big issue with recommending service as it is the user own responsibility and decision of choice at the end of the day. Honestly, how many of us actually take online reviews seriously.. especially when we are at BHW where blackhat techniques are use?

After seeing the movie Happy Gilmore and what happend to Chubbs there is no way I would ever use HG.

Wow, I never new that they were all owned by the same company, this thread has been informative for me, although I understand both sides of this argument. I've spent many hours (and probably days) researching the best web hosts, and I mean it can be very frustrating when you know that there are so many B.S. reviews all over the place....so I get it. I think one of the biggest concerns that I've realized needs to actually be a concern for webmasters and IMers is the IP blocks when you share space, I think this is a great point. It's like you don't really know what's going on. I'm sure there are ways to figure that out, but I haven't dug deeper yet - eventually I will, but it's good to know that HG may be doing this because now Ima move my shiz and look into other things, recommendations are welcomed. (PM).

P.S. @LakeForest - love your signature.
