what hosting should I choose?

I really don't have any experience with hosting providers, so I'm asking for advice here;
I will be hosting many low-profile websites; so a lot of domain names, that take close to no resources each, alongside (in around 4-5 months or so, not now) just a few, bigger, more resource-hungry websites.

what do you guys suggest, an unlimited shared hosting account, or a vps?

also, dreamhost/hostgator/etc or someone from bhw, and if so, whom?

never tried hostgator, but it's one of the best hosting provider in the market shared is good, when you get heavy websites and earn some good money, go for dedicated hosting but for now, u should use the basic plan for simple websites.

Please don't. Hostgator is the most known so it's not strange that so many recommend them but it's really, really terrible compared to other alternatives like site5. Hostgator used to be decent but those days are long gone.

Yes, and it is still on sticky. And if that was a useless thread it shouldn't remain on sticky right?

In my experience, hostgator oversells their shared hosting plan. If you are located on a crowdy node, you loading speed will suffer.
