If I have an algorithm penalty, is there any reason to go out of my way to manually contact webmasters to remove links, or should I just skip that and do a detox report and disavowal the links in Google saving myself a ton of time & money? I'm just wondering if there is any upside to spending all that time for an algorithm penalty.

It checked the links and gave a report about potential bad links, which I checked myself and saw that they really were worthless.

One thing that got my attention was that it ended up checking 100 link less than what Ahrefs.com is showing, but I guess they might be down.

All in all great service.

Hello Captinjamestkirk!

I'm glad you liked our design What about your question - it is advised to try at least to reach some of the webmasters (it is quite impossible to reach all of them though) which own the bad links and ask them to remove your link from their sites, but i can recall an article where Google's Matt Cutts stated that a disavow is also effective. Many of our clients just disavowed their links and therefore got their sites out of the penalty box. But keep in mind that if you intend to write Google a reconsideration request then you'd better have at least few of those bad links removed or have some proofs that you at least tried to remove them.

Yes, this is a common thing that sometimes there might be less backlinks checked when a campaign is finished and you're right - mostly this happens because the links servers were down, or they unavailable at the moment of analysis, or maybe they don't exist anymore. This is why backlinks check is advised to be performed on a regular basis so you make sure you don't miss any of the bad links.
