How do so many people get banned?

I'm sure many people have the same question but just don't want to ask. I've been using this site for a while now, and it seems that ~10% of frequent users eventually get banned... especially ones that have 1k+ posts.

In the ToS, it looks as through one would really have to do some really bad stuff to get a ban. It makes me nervous to post when I see this. So do a lot of people really do bad stuff or is it like a mod does not like 1/1000 posts and the account is closed?

Sometimes some members (now ex) get their heads in a dark hole and try to get other members there too. This is when BHW hammers them into that hole completely and permanently.

Alea iacta est, but I thought it might reduce risk overall if I (and especially others) understood it better. I want to contribute well to the community, but I don't want to get banned, or even do something that might upset people. I've opened countless profiles that were banned trying to understand, but its usually not clear. Yea "read the rules" hurr hurr but when I see that people were banned, its not usually because they were selling CPA accounts, making fun of someone's disabilities, etc.

If you could sum-up 90% of the bans, what is the cause?

I see what you're getting at. Hard to do better than the basics. Read the rules again. The
clues to why members were banned isn't always in their threads. I know because I've tried using that
method many times myself. :) Indicio pecuniarum applicando

Honestly in users signatures who were banned I wished it showed the exact reason. Personally we are all a community and we do business and discuss methods with different members and when I see them banned I am like uh oh hope they didn't do whatever they got banned for to me and I didn't catch it. Its a public forum and I wish the reasons were public as well.

Edit: I understand we don't make the rules neither do I expect them to change. This forum has been nothing but a wealth of knowledge to myself and many others. Lets keep going strong and quit complaining!

When people get banned we are all curious.
We might speculate as to WHY they were banned but we will never know the real reason for sure and as it is a taboo subject it is best just to move on.

Unless someone does something terribly bad, we issue an infraction.
If a member gets 3 infractions, they are automatically banned.

If a member conducts himself/herself in a rational, respectable
manner and as long as he/she follows the rules, they have no
reason to fear being banned.

If you don't want to be banned than follow the rules. If you don't like BHW's rules then you don't belong here. Be a good contributor, be respectful and helpful to members and don't screw anyone over and you can enjoy being a part of the best IM forum.

Plain and simple.

Couldn't have said it better myself. :)

if any body gets 9 infraction points then he will get banned . (jazzc told me this )
RW got banned because he got 9 points of infractions.
i had about 4 infractions but only 1 point, so currently i am in safe house.

(please not send me a infraction with points for this post )

i hope some people have a sense of humor here goes...

rumor has it if you post to any mod he stinks of piss
and his momma dresses him funny

apparently enforcer WIZ now visit to your house and batters you with a
custom bhw hammer , apparently its a heavy one

Most members that are banned outright are banned due to some sort of BST violation where they fail to meet their responsibility as a buyer/seller and deliberately try to scam other members. This isn't always apparent as it usually takes us a week or two to sort out the issues after they are brought to our attention.

Second would probably be members actively trying to subvert the forum through some other channel (Skype, other forums, etc). For instance, we have in the past located members who were employed by Craigslist's legal retainer and were using their privileged position on the forum to gather evidence build cases against members engaged in CL autoposting.

Third would be routine rule violations that result in an automatic ban.

i think they have to mess up pretty bad, i had a couple regretful drunk posts and nobody said a word.

Even with a sense of humour, I struggle to find the funny part of that?

what u can comprehend , what does it take to get banned
and a response - insult a mod and wiz visits you to hit
you with a heavy hammer.. if your not a brit what i wrote wont mean
anything...would u like a diagram with that
