How would you promote a keyword based domain to first page?

Hi BHW members,

I've recently bought a keyword based domain on a high competitive niche. Even when I put my site's name(exact keywords) in Adwords, the CPC bids are incredibly high. Even though I have 40-50 domains linking to my root domain, the site is not listed in the first 2 pages for these exact keywords organically. I talked to an adwords rep on the phone about this issue knowing that he would not have any clue. You might wonder why I talked about organic SEO to an adwords expert and here is my reason:

If I advertise heavily on these exact keywords, I will pay a lot of money to ads. I will gain customers at a very high cost. These customers will type the exact keywords to Google in order to come back to my site but since Google will not show my site organically, they will end up clicking to ads. The only possible way for my customer to come back to my site is through newsletters, bookmarking or typing the exact url of my site. I asked the expert if having a adwords traffic would help improve the site's organic ranking and he could not really give me an answer.

As white SEO experts, can you please suggest me what I should do?

I'd leave it be for at least 3 to 4 months without any SEO directed at the EMD kw's. Sometimes just aging a few months leads EMD to the top. If you try to optimize a domain immediately after registration, it'll get nuked in no time.

Let me tell you a little story about Red Riding Noob and a big bad wolf...

Once upon a time there was a Red Riding Noob, he believed in Google employees so he called them to ask about his KWs.

One day Google sent him adwords coupons to start his campaign:"Here, Red Riding Noob, take these coupons , take them to your account, your site is weak and they will do your site good."

His site was in on the other side of the white hat SEO, in the black woods, called "Beyond 10th page in SERPs" Red Riding Noob did not know what a wicked creature Google was so he decided to use the adword coupons on his site. Once he saw first visitors coming to his site he was happy so Red Riding Noob decided to invest in adwords.

Google thought to himself:"What a tender young creature. I must lure him with more coupons so he can spend more"

Once red Riding Noob spent all of his funds on adwords he decided to build some "white hat links" to his site and get "organic"visitors"...soon after that he came to BHW to ask for help, cause big bad Google punished his site.

Ok but I don't want to pay adwords for these incredible CPCs. What am I going to do? Are you saying PRs, social bookmarking or blog posts won't help at all?

Try to rank the EMD domain before you start using adwords. Start off with manual link building with web 2.0 and article submissions. Write the content yourself. You say you have 40-50 domains linking to your main domain, well if the niche is very competitive than that is just not good enough. Add social signals and after some time try different link building techniques. EMD`s are still rankings quite nice on G, you just have to find a good/nice way to do it.

Thanks for the advice vpurity. I don't think SkyRocketSEO's nice story really fits to what I am trying to say here. So let me give you an example:

Let's say I work for a big corporation who decides to buy a domain called nicesockscom. And they give me the opportunity to spend $5000 per day to drive traffic from Adwords. Are you saying I won't be organically ranked in the first page for some who typed nice socks?

Any advertising you do, whether it's PPC or print or radio or TV ads, it augments Direct traffic. Direct traffic, in my mind is the golden ticket. Anyone directly typing your URL into their search bar is already your friend. If you can increase your direct traffic pool via PPC, then it's worth every penny.

Yes but to answer your first question PPC with Adwords will not improve your organic traffic and rankings. In fact it goes in Adwords favor if you drop in rankings which means that you will be using their services a lot more. But using Adwords and still have nice organic rankings is always a big + .. Like i said EMD is still rankings quite nice if you know how to approach it. And if you have a big budget you can build up your own niche network of sites for different keywords that could bring you some good organic income so you wont be that much dependent only on Adwords for traffic.

First of all, I see that you don't understand what I am trying to do. So I guess its my fault in the way I describe it. I never bought an EMD, so yeah I don't how to rank it without having backlinks. I have sites that get 20k-30k daily SEO traffic, so alcr33k I know about SEO a little bit.

My point in writing this thread was to learn if I can just rank in the first page for only the exact words of my domain. Bartosimposonio said it will 3-4 months. Thats fine for me if I were to plan to get only organic traffic for this domain. However, thats not the case. I need to use Adwords, Facebook marketing to promote my site. I need to built a customer base. Any customer that came to my site using paid ad, will at some point return to my site. And how will they return? They will be likely to type the domain name in Google search because people don't use bookmarks anymore. Now here is the issue. If I were to buy a unique domain name, then it would not be an issue because Google will list it right away. Unfortunately, since I bought an EMD domain Google will not list it. I need to reduce the time it will take for Google to list it because I will be spending money on ads. So if any of you have a good suggestion please tell me what I should do.
