By competition, you selected one with 'high'. And you suggest one that's low comp.

Are you talking about 2 things? Keyword competition & 1st page competition?

You want the keyword competion to be high. That means that many companies are advertising on that keyword, so you will earn more and your site will display better and more relevant ads, increasing CTR. You also want low competition on the first page of google so you can rank more easily for that keyword.

That helps. I always see the word 'low comp' and wondered which part has to be low. Ill be waiting for the guide on how OP determine the 1st page competition.

This thread is a goldmine for me. I have just started with adsense and I am in the process of keyword research as I write this. Have few keywords in mind and using my friend's longtail pro for this. Been stuck on this from 3-4 days. I will take a good time to select the keywords.

ATM, what I am confused at this point: should I go for 10 keywords related to my niche and build a site with 50-60 articles or MNS for each keyword? I have a fairly good grip on SEO and can rank low-medium to medium keywords. So that is not an issue.

I will go along with you and if possible, I will post my progress along with you if you don't mind
And thanks a lot for posting this man, this will help my lazy ass to work subscribed!

In my opinion you should go for both, that's the only way to see what will really for you.
But for start, try to rank something easy, to get that feeling first.
All the best to you.

do think i can get accepted on adsense with a blogspot domain?

Yes you can.

what about link building

Coming.

Chill out dude, he's barely into keyword research & checking to see if said keyword is even rankable. That comes after.

Marrko: Is your name a Venture Brothers reference?

Subscribed & following, will be attempting this right along with your posts, and posting my results in this thread.

When should we expect an update? I'm anxious to get started! (Been reading other Adsense threads, this one motivated me to get started NOW!)

Update coming today later, and no my name is marrrko, lol

Ah.. i remember when I first joined BHW.. every 3rd thread you read becomes your favorite. Its like the cavern of Alibaba (the tale, not the chinese website). I miss that...

Btw Marko, excellent thread, i haven't posted in it yet but I've been following since the beginning, these are the thraeds that make BHW a great place to hangout and learn stuff everyday. +thanks

Same here, lol

i found a keyword with 9900 search 1.25$ cpc but the emd is premium domain should i go with a hyphens domain or should i try find new keyword.

one more question should i go .org if .com and .net are not available

I prefer .com and .net and if you really want that domain go with hyphens, but in general, i like clean .com or .net.

Hi I've found a keyword and I wanted to know what you think about it :

Wihtout "" : 115 000
With "" : 34 200
Allintitle : 1 300

Competition for the 5 first:

Keyword analysis :
Monthly search : 4300
Competition : High
PPC : 1.5$

I think it looks good. What is you opinion?

From what you posted here, all looks good. It's EMD?

My question is:

in your kitchen desk example.......

what content you adding after your first article about kitchen desks? I have some similar keywords that I feel are so micro that I'm essentially painting myself into a corner and will have a hard time keeping the site fresh.

Thanks

You can write literally about enything, about kitchen desks sizes, colors, design, things you can put there, about different materials for desks, etc, just take a look at one of any kitchen desk image and get ideas.

Also you will aim only one keyword in MNS, so you can write many things which are not directly connected to your main keyword.

it is a dream to get 10-20/day for a 1000 monthly search keyword.if you are #1 on google you get average %40 of the traffic. even %8-10 ctr and $1 cpc you get $1/day.

It's all depends of CPC. With Mesothelioma (average CPC $179.01) you need only one click per day.
So it's all math but once you get your site ranked you can see that's not a case.

thanks for this theard , when checking compition whit seoquake , what i should look into ?
the page rank on google ?

Coming today.

Found a keyword

Without "":27,600,000
With "":248,000
Intitle without:308,000
Intitle with "":10,700

Rs is INR i guess?
Also looks good. What about domain?

Hi Marko,
nice info you have here post 108 but something worries me. As per your screenshot kitchendesk.org and .net are available.
But there is one thing I usually do when I find a good KW. I go to in this case and check the Registration tab. According to it both org and .net were deleted sites and are available again for registration. I want to know if domains like these should be avoided?

I didn't faced with that problem so far. I got my all domains indexed, and decent amount ranked.

You can check domain history that's good, but there's not way to find out why certain domain was dropped.
In my opinion you can go for it if you want something nice for you.

By competition, you selected one with 'high'. And you suggest one that's low comp.

Are you talking about 2 things? Keyword competition & 1st page competition?

Nope, i was talking about adwords competition, and people who paying good for advertising.

UPDATE:

So to sum up, how to find good and profitable keyword(s)

- One of the best indicators, are the number of advertisers. The more advertisers for a certain keyword phrase, the more likely someone is making a profit for that term. So look always on "high competitive" keywords, and you will be able to make good profit.
CPC is also important but not crucial. Once you setup your site and put content there, your ads will appear as relevant, which will also increase your CTR bringing you more money per click. At the end once you get ranked your keywords, you will be able to get maximum from your effort which is most important for all webmasters.

~Your site ranking will not only measure in traffic, it will also measure in conversions, that's why we don't want only visitors, we want buyers.

- Once you found your keywords, don?t forget to look at who is in the top three. So for example if you see Wikipedia, Ebay, Amazon, or even brands like Apple etc, in my opinion you should stop there and search for another long tail more easy to rank keywords.
I'm not saying this is impossible, but it's better to focus on something easy, and start making money much faster instead if trying months and years to beat some strong aged links. Once you made money, you can play with "big dogs".

- So how to verify it there enough space for your keyword?
Easy, all we need to do is to verify anchor, title and text to see how low competitive the keyword phrase really is. Now we will not just search in Google to find competition, why? Here's why.

Check this term for example: "words for all"
wadc.png

As you can see there are over 3 billion pages. Now many people will assume it's very hard to get ranked for this keyword, because there are many pages to beat. Wrong, Google gives you all the pages that contain words "words" "for" "all", and not necessarily together, so your real competitors are on the first page of google, and even closer top 3 listing.

Let's see if our desired keyword are SEO'd or not. For that purpose we need to check Anchor, Title and Text.

Basic definitions of these three columns:

Anchor - Pages with best link building campaign for the keyword phrase?
Title - Best pages in terms of title, tag and PR?
Text - Pages with best Onpage?

Greetings to all.

I've been reading the forum for about a week and decided to register. IM has been on my mind for the past year but I've always been overwhelmed by the sheer amount of info and I never got around to it. Reading this thread and the other one by bluematter finally motivated me to take action(thank you both).

It seems that I'm off to a bad start though. I began with the first step, keyword research, but as I understand it the google keyword tool has just been replaced by something else. I'm completely new to this but from what I understand the new program has lost some of the features of the old one and is also harder to use.

I feel like an idiot asking for things when I'm not even 5 minutes in, but seeing as the old method is unavailable, can some help me out with an idiot's guide to keyword research that's hopefully as effective as the old one?

Others might do it differently, but this is how I do it:
First go to GKT (obv)
and select the first option "Search for new Keyword"
a.PNG

Type in your keyword around brackets. I'm not sure if it's already exact or something (stupid GKeyword), but I do it out of habit.
You can put filters if you want, usually I don't screw with anything other than average monthly searches.
b.PNG

I personally like going to the "Keyword Ideas" tab, feels more like the original GKT.

Look at the basic definition above. You will notice that the Anchor and Text columns are mostly filled in compared to the Title and URL columns. This suggests incoming anchor text and on-page factors are most important for ranking for this particular keyword phrase.

Tip1: Every keyword phrase is different in terms of what it needs to rank well.

Tip2: No matter what tool you use, take time to verify the data and ensure it is accurate before you commit hours to promote it.

Optimized page example:

Keyword: kitchen desk
Title: Kitchen Desk: Kitchen Desk Design Ideas, Desk Pictures, Remodel, Desk Decor
Description: You will find all information about kitchen desk.
URL: www. site .com/kitchen-desk

Now you know how to recognize optimized page with the keyword in the title, description and url.

Unoptimized page example:

Keyword: kitchen desk
Title: My blog about kitchen in general: Lot of tips tricks how to feel better in your kitchen
Description: You will get many tips and trick from M.M .
URL: www. site .com/check-my-blog

Now you know how to recognize unoptimized page. Once you see something like this, go for it.

Coming up in next post, my keywords, my domain my first link building work.

which region you are targeting? US? also, once you ranked your keyword, do you still do backlinks to your site?

Hi Marko, Excellent thread. I have bookmarked it and I am coming back to check out your next update tonight :)

I started BlueMatters thread too but I gave up midway. With tons of articles on it, my expenses were just pilling up. Spending time and $XXX on a project with no returns was a bit disheartening so I gave up . Luckily, I found a buyer for 4x so it was all good. Also, I am sure if I held on to that site till now, I wud've seen some adsense dollars rolling in.

I love starting new projects but I enjoy flipping sites too much to let go of any offers which can make instant money , rather then holding on. However, I will start this journey with you and hold on =) Let's make this happen. I am off to start my kw research.

everything regarding this step is clear and well explained, I just don't understand when you say anchor and text columns, what do you mean? do you mean just page title and page meta description or you look for site's anchor and text columns in some software/script?

btw this is so far the best and most detailed journey and method explanation I've seen and I read hundreds of them

Hi Marko, Few questions -

1. If you dont find .com, will u opt for .net first and then .org ? or it doesn't really matter ?
2. Will u go for 3 or 4 word EMD's or stick to 2 ?

Really good thread, will be following it for sure! I have one question about EMD: Does it have a big influence if I can't find the exact domain like myexample but I get my-example instead? Does the " - " have a big impact?
Thanks

thanks for this thread! I already built one adsense site, and did deep kw research, very high CPC according to GKP However, i checked my adsense account, and already got some clicks, but something confuse me is the CPC from adsense is only around $0.2, really far below what i researched from GKP. Would anyone tell me why this happened? how to improve my CPC?? I consider this might be due to the traffic source, but not quite sure this I am very new to adsense, and hope to learn something from here.. thanks a lot in advance:)))

from my experience, yes. It didn't rank very well compared to "myexample". So i would personally suggest getting a true EMD. thats just to be safe.
