Laptop waking up from sleep automatically

I don't have any other. Now the problem has outgrown, it's reached the shutdown function and I can't turn off this laptop without removing the battery, wtf...

I scanned it twice for malwares, the first time a trojan was found, and the second scan was clean.

This issue is very irritating, I don't want it to stay on all the time forever. I can't even shut it down properly..
It's taking much of my time and too much is already wasted.

I think I figured it:

Disabling Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller device solved the problem (for sleep mode at least).

Now if I don't want to disable the device, I must have the internet cable connected to the laptop otherwise the problem will persist.

I think you misunderstood my post. The laptop wakes up right after I turn it into sleep mode by closing the lid. It does not stay in sleep mode and I definitely don't want it running all days long forever, especially when I myself want to sleep.

Hey, I have a Toshiba and face problems with the sleep mode too. The problem is different though. The sleep function is cutoff if the lid is left closed for more than half hour and the system reboots and starts afresh when the lid is opened after this interval. I was told by the service guys that it was an isolated system issue. Now I see it is not isolated but a system issue nevertheless. Looks like Toshiba has some issue or the other with sleep mode and over heating across all its models.

For the record, java 7.XX is having a serious exploit issue that has not been fixed since spring. You should not be using it. Homeland Security has even suggested it be removed from devices you want ti keep secure. You have to go all the way back to Java 6 to avoid the exploit. Malware checkers do not find it.

If someone used that exploit and you have wake on lan, it might be a botnet trying to bring you online after your computer is idle.

Have you connected a LAN cable to your laptop? Perhaps it is Wake on Lan??????

Yeah, I've heard about that issue. The thing is I'm into programming and I'll be having ongoing stuff with Java very soon so I'm bound to install it. I have standard firewalls in Windows and Router enabled and an anti-virus so this should make the system less vulnerable. Thanks for the advice though.

Since you have pin pointed it to the Network cable, did you try changing the power options?

Device Manager > Right Click Network Card > Properties > Power Management >>>> un-check Allow this device to bring the computer out of stand by

On a serious note, if problem persists, reinstall your OS or restore from a checkpoint

Actually that was one of the first things I tested and no, it didn't help. The whole device has to be disabled although I've tried disabling any setting in the device related to sleep mode.
