I am new to this forum, but I am verging on desperate to find an answer to why my site has been so devalued by Google over the last year. It's a pretty long story, but I have a 15 year old ecommerce site in a niche market and for the last year I have lost a considerable amount of ranking, impressions, etc. There has been no manual penalty. I am to the point where I want to do something drastic to get back my rankings. My competition has very similar sites and is ranking 1,2,3 while I have been "devalued" even though I am just as relevant as he is. I wonder if my site has been sabotaged, but more importantly, is there ANYTHING I can do to fix this quickly (it's now been over a year..). My site is not adult, but it concerns an adult market (crossdressing clothing and accessories). We have gone through a complete site redesign, added lots of articles that I have written, bulked up category text, etc, etc, to NO avail. I have a fb page with 45,000 likes, and all the social media stuff leading back to my site. My impressions went from 60,000 to a new low this week of only 4500. I am turning to ANYONE here who might be able to help me. I have not been affected in either Bing or Yahoo. Almost willing to do anything legal...

O.K what about the content? Were you using duplicate content?? copying product descriptions from other sites?? Because I had a site which contained a lot of duplicate content and low quality content and it also lost its ranking magically. What I did was to re-do the site from scratch, adding new articles each and every day...and after exactly 6 months the site was back with more power and authority. I hope this helps.

Is your site Mobile friendly hummingbird has rolled out. Also are you using Google+ if not I strongly suggest using Google+!

Firstly, Go and talk to some SEO consultants (we have a lot of people who have great knowledge in SEO here) and analyze the website.
Then decide what to do... and do it in the right way!

Thank you for the responses. Where can I post here to have someone or multiple someones take a look at my site. I was not allowed to post the name because I am a new user. Also, I did hire a company to get rid of backlinks that he thought might be bad. I never paid for links or had anyone else do it, but after 15 years, there must have been a bunch that looked suspicious.
Many of my items are manufactured by me or not widely available, so I do not use a bunch of manufacturer descriptions for my products. I do have another ecommerce site that is even older, and it used to have the same items as this site, but to avoid duplicate content issues, I stopped even adding new items so that the site so the site that is being penalized would have as much original content and items as possible. It still hasn't worked. In fact, my older site, which has no redesign, uses long string url's, has no social media, etc, is now ranked higher than my other resdesigned site with tons of articles, new products, etc. I am to the point where I am thinking f just morphing the penalized site into the other site so it will have all the hundreds of new items on there so at least I can capitalize on the traffic coming to that site.

how many fresh links do you have pointing to your site, what is the link profile of a similar site? If yours is 35k and the other is 5k then you got caught up in a update in some shape or form.

Put simply it will be impossible to give any usable advice without seeing it. I would advise strongly against posting your url openly for several reasons.

First make sure you have 301'd all of the old pages uRLs to the new pages.
Second check your backlinks and make sure that you weren't penalized because of that. You can use a service like linkdelete for that.
Third make sure you don't have any onsite issues that really screwed you up. Thats something that usually happens. For example your redesign made all of your titles the same on every page. Or something like that.
