Not sure what you mean by right schema mark up. I did a simple research and typed: paleo diet in the search bar.

Nothing else.

Thanks

Certain pages got hit harder on my site then others and the only major difference between thous are thr web 2.0 . Studying a few sites that survived n niches I will pursue now that thry have been cleaned out. (Thanks google) it would seem they back link profile didn't rely heavely on web2.0.

So my guess would be they devalued web 2.0s to a certain extent. Some one please prove me wrong here.

Today my friend was driving around looking for a Halloween costume for her upcoming Halloween party. The first store she went to din't have what she was looking for and neither did the second store. She grabbed for her phone and searched Google for local Halloween shops in her area. YELLOW PAGES! WIKIPEDIA! and a lot of more bullshit results popped up. I told her to use Bing. She's going to be a sexy french maid this Halloween!!! Thanks Bing!!!

Bing shopping is in all ways superior to Google shopping now, the only problem is lack of participation. Overall, however, it's superior by far.

I have been checking a keyword that use to rank number 4 on g**gle, before the new update. It is a two word keyword. I have been reversing the order of the words and checking both ways, i.e "brown cars" "cars brown"

I have been checking it daily and noticed it would rotate between nowhere and #19. I have recently checked it again for the last 120 mins, and I have been getting some very different results.

If I check it once as "brown cars" it will be ranked #4, I check it again 5 mins later and it is ranked #17. Check it again 15 mins later and it is nowhere to found. Check it again 10 mins later and it is back at #4. This cycle continues to repeat.

I get the exact same results with "cars brown", but it never ranks higher than #8.

Also, when that one keyword is ranking #4, all my other keyword are ranking good as well, but when it drops they drop.

Would the g**gle dance cause this to happend?

Appreciate your input!

I have also noticed a WHOIS specific penalty. Most of my domains I register as private but I did have a few old ones that I never used privacy on. One of my major websites was a .us so it didn't have privacy. All my websites registered under the WHOIS got slammed hard even if links were white hat and extremely high quality. Obviously you never want to create any type of footprint but all the sites were completely unrelated. None of my sites using privacy got hit. Most of them went actually went up with the update. Also I have noticed that on websites that I did some blast on with manual spun highly readable content with software like Senuke They went back to the ranking they were at when they first links would have been noticed. I am assuming that Google has put some sort of timer in links now to be able to safe guard against negative SEO. Which mean if you see a competitors websites climbing in ranking quick hit them hard before it is too late;)

Nearly 13 pages of reading - My site is -10, my -20 , my +5 !!!

As usuall, all sellers? comments: Our client?s rankings are still solid, few drops but most up ? LOL

Anyway, I can not find a footprint for 2.1 update so far. I did the same linking for nearly 30 quite new clients in different niches. Around 50% drop in ranking, 20% keep ranking (1-5 difference) and 30% up. Some keywords started to recover some not etc.

I have some old clients in low competitive niches and they have only a few links (10-200) ? around 90% of them keep ranking and move up, but I?m pretty sure its due some of their competitors are tanked.

lol... all i could work out is... " BOILS DOWN TO LINKS" is the big find here? lol
great find steve, I think you have cracked Penguin 2.1

Check the link profiles for the sites that survived this update. There is one pattern that's popping up. That also answers why in many searches page 1 is populated by odd sites with just a handful of links. Check those links, where they are coming from.

I have some friends in the "Online Casino" business and their sites were trashed on the 4th. They went from 1k visitors a day to around 200 (likely direct direct only). Hummingbird is just the latest way that Google can pump up their advertizing revenue.

Lol at this one KW up for site 1. And strange thing on site 2 too..Was hit hard for the EMD (1900 MS) but not much for a very similar KW with more competition.

Are these the effects of Google Penguin 2.1 update or of the Google hummingbird?

Are these the effects of Google Penguin 2.1 update or of the Google hummingbird?

Google are definitely presenting it as if it's down to Penguin 2.1, and the general IM media outfit seems to be buying it wholesale right now. They're all broadly sticking to the "Hummingbird has no meaningful impact on search results, so it must be Penguin 2.1".

I'm not buying it though. If you stop looking at what 2.1 has done to your sites, and instead look at the trend in the results being returned by the search page, you'll see that the quality (as measured by Google) of the page one returns for most niches now seems to be occupied by high authority, high quality, high utility and PRECISE brands and sites, with very little in the way of churn and burn and low quality representation. I believe Google have said that Hummingbird will lead to more precise, higher quality and far more useful search results. So that, to me, suggests that this has very little to do with Penguin 2.1 (which I'm guessing was just a data refresh + possible tweaks to make it compatible with the new functionality they've almost certainly added to Hummingbird), and more to do with Hummingbird.

That's just speculation though.

I'm not suggesting that Penguin 2.1 isn't responsible in part for what we're seeing. I don't think it's entirely, or indeed majorly responsible for the changes we're seeing however. This isn't just a case of a typical Penguin update taking out sites that have used particularly obnoxious campaign strategies and moving everyone else around a little bit. Certainly the data refresh will have had that impact, but that impact is being overshadowed by the very broad and colourful changes in the types of sites we're starting to see on page 1.

Also, I'm guessing the upcoming Panda data refresh will see all of those weird sites we're seeing in certain niches relegated and replaced by Hummingbird's "precise and valuable" search results.

Laughable how loads of people are calling upon Microsoft to solve all their SEO issues with respect to Bing.

Ballmer's wish of "verb up and 'Bing it'", still hasn't come into fruition. I don't think I've heard anyone ever say, "bing it". It just doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely as "google it".

My best site had been no1 for a long time and dipped down to position 9 - 10 (around 26th August) and sometimes page 2 a few weeks ago. Made it back onto page 1 though just after.

Now its vanished to the depths. I have found an inner page on page 8 and kept going until I ran out of pages. Google were showing 25. I clicked the option to show the results with omitted pages included and I found a lot of my inner pages containing articles.

I found my home page and my 2 "sales pages" on page 38.

I have no idea of the conclusion. I found around 20 inner pages which werent showing, my about us and contact us page and my email us page all ranking above my home page.

My site has around 10% do follow links. The site in position 1 is a page on webmd.com with 43 nofollow links and and 25,000 do follow and a huge increase in links added in the last few weeks.

Can anyone make sense of the picture?

Slow recovery in some keywords.

It's all over the place....their ranking system is probably still spreading. We probably won't see definitive SERPs until two weeks after the shakeup.

Anyone else noticed an increase of yahoo and bing traffic since this update? I'm still getting long tail from Google (and seem to be making a few more sales that usual), but bing and yahoo traffic is certainly up. This is for my (older) main site that is 18 months old and got slapped hard in the last update. Rankings for my main two keywords for this site have dropped slightly during this update, but other lesser pages seem to have stayed the same.
