i have only see manual penalities get passed eventually, yet to personally see an "algorithm" automated penalty get passed

First of all, how bad was it hit?
Few spots on some kws or side-wide with all rankings gone straight to hell?

Second, give it a week or two and then please come back and update us.
Rankings were gone straight to hell as you put it.

I'm not expecting this to last for an eternity, but it doesn't need to as I can just do another redirect then. I'll try to keep you updated...

Wordpress sites didn't get hit, it just that the majority of SEO'ers use Wordpress.
Why, because they can install Yoast or All In One SEO or something similar and optimize freaking everything.
Title, url, H1, bold, italic, meta description etc.
Same with T1 linking to moneysite.

I've a feeling that Penguin 2.1 isn't just about backlinks.

Nope, my client's sites aren't 'Yoast' optimised. They wrote the content, it's legit, WH shit. I would have thrown some of my sexy SEO stuff in there, but they didn't want it. Their site is on WP in the finance niche. It got smashed. Two other clients (travel/finance) have been smashed, but 22 others haven't, some are on WP some aren't. My SEO site is on WP and is optimised to the max, and is only climbing. I've had sites with lots or zero social links and both rank. Social is still wack in my eyes.

Whats nicely spun though ?
Word level, sentence level, paragraph level?
Some guys consider a WordAI spin a nice spin while pro's like Expertpeon has spuns that are < 1 meg in size
Nicely spun. Like spun to my preference. I was a writer, you know that, I am picky as fuck and want a decent spin. No paragraphs are the same, no character length is the same; just a nice, decent spin.

Same High Pr comments that one dude buys, and then share the list amongst his Skype friends and before you know every post is either spammed to death or site owners deletes and closes all the comments within few weeks ?

Remember, the most simple answer is usually the right one.
This goes for the Tumblr blogs too.

True, blog comments are my downfall. They've always been part of my plan and range of links I use. I used to boost them with various link building that would work a treat, so I kept on with it.

well it is already said by google authorities

manual penalties do have time limitation

but even if you get manual penalty lifted with reconsideration algo penalties carry over :D

I have a number of sites and my personal observations is this:

Those sites which tanked had the majority of backlinks pointing towards the root domain (with that page, and so the main keyword, suffering).
The sites which had backlinks pointing predominantly to inner pages have not suffered at all (some have gained).

I'm not saying this is main mechanisum behind this update or anything, I'm just throwing it out there.

On the few sites I have which have dropped in the serps I plan to simply link more of the inner pages.

Just to show you this one is hard to figure, most of my links were directed at inner pages. All tanked, several from top 15 (including 2 top 10s) to 200.

As so many other people have mentioned, it's too early to say anything substantial just yet. I'm tracking a few thousand keywords, and there are some patterns but they aren't anything to go by either, at least right now. SERPs are in constant flux.

For me, the most strange thing is that EMDs seem to be doing really, really well. They have gained in the rankings, even though it's been only a little while, despite having spammy links, web 2.0s, tiers, what not. They have moved up for competitive keywords and easy ones alike.

Some brands I was tracking with what seemed like a decent link profile have dropped wildly (100,000+ links, relevant sites (the kind where you get mentioned in the resources section/cited in a post, etc.). Go figure. :-)

I'm having mixed results with EMD's, some stayed the same or went up or some got hit. Not too much consistency there.

Not true either... I have several EMD's that where making over 1k am month and now tanked..a newer one is still holding ground but most tankes

Haven't notice any SERP changes with my sites. Well, one of my competitor is getting SERP fluctuations since yesterday

This must be where my extra traffic is coming from. All you noobs winging about a loss of rank is just telling Google that they are good at their job and they need to keep doing what they are doing. If everone on a black hat forum winges, they are doing the right thing.

I got smashed. It's a crisis.

I need SEO help. Can people recommend SEO providers please?

My company used to do SEO through building linkwheels and so forth, but we gave up on that well over a year ago. I need traffic and sales results, not link building results.

Hah, true, we really need to calm everything down, sit back wait and than do some quality links and all will be ok

Google straight away giving edge to emd ! or keywords in sub domain ! and i found strange they are highlighting keywords in url ! those are ranking above and followed by keywords in title and description areas !

Have been just reading and following what's happening last days, but I guess I could share my views also.

First of all it's kind of funny how after every major update this community repeats same steps. Google-hate, statements how G algo is broken and serps are horrible, end of SEO, end of Google, monopoly, revolution and so on. Exactly same stuff as many times before.

About the update I can also say the same things. Results don't make any sense. 4 out 14 of my sites got penalized. If I would had to guess before the update which sites, I wouldn't have named any of those sites actually got penalized. There's no logic or pattern with these. Sample size is small and maybe someone else who owns more sites can get better picture. Then again, been reading a lot from other peoples rankings and it sounds like everything got penalized and everything survived. Google has patents for their randomizing algorithm which might very well play some kind of role again, making it impossible to analyze the update.

Best thing for now would be to follow basic logic/common sense and ignore these results, at least until results make more sense and meaningful analysis can be made.

2 of my sites that have tanked had more links to inner pages, one specific inner page on each site, so I don't think it's that simple.

Have a look around this forum. We're not stopping quite yet.....

Google will be gone before I am done with my SEO career. Their system is broken, they're begging you to disavow links, etc, otherwise the only shit they can rank is amazon.com and ebay...they're cornered.....

I agree it's totally broken and the more they punish legitimate sites with their nonsense the more it forces people into doing the very stuff they don't like, since no-one is going to spend time and money creating "quality" when it could be destroyed by Google in a couple of months time.

They are forcing people to churn and burn because it's the least risk method to try and earn a living, so they are accelerating and increasing the levels of webspam, and the simple truth is that no matter how much they tinker with their algorithm people will ALWAYS find a way to get around it for some period of time.

Google are so fecking stupid considering they have so many PHDs working for them - if they are truly concerned about the level of junk on the net, and want to discourage more and more from appearing then all they need to do is create a charge for anyone to have their website show in the Google results, and it will then be subject to the algorithm.

That is to say charge say $500 per website per year to have it in the SERPs - that would kill stone dead 90% of the webspam that's out there, mean Google don't have to keep fecking around with the algo, and leave the rest of us to make a living in peace without this crap going on all of the time.

And it would also mean they aren't putting the small mom and pop stores out of business and ruining peoples lives.

possibly the worst thing i've ever heard. if you wanna pay to rank, there is adwords for you. also, most blackhat spammers will gladly pay $500 a year if it will rank them in the top results. Most spammers will make this kind of money in 1 day.
