Google update just now? 10/4?

I have been seeing normal google dance type stuff, but still first page for keywords i was first page for a few weeks ago. Now, this is a business with a good google local ranking and tons of local business citations and links on industry-related and trusted websites, so the legitimacy has been long established, business wise before any white-black-grey hat methods were used.

That said, and I only bring this up cause someone asked if any BHW services were unaffected. I used Aurarank and the links from them seemed to be slightly affected by that late August - late September update and rollback, but all is good now. No Hands SEO has been not causing any issues either. Both, at least in my case, have seemed safe to use. YMMV.\

I CBA to multi-quote but from you guys on pg11 of this thread:

I noticed most (90%) of WordPress sites got hit.
Web 2.0s pointing directly at MS (nicely spun, though) got hit.
High PR blog comments (I used to buy from BHW and various other places) got hit.
Some sites had 40k Facebook likes bought. Not bought by me, but my client. I told him last year to never do that again but it was his go-to thing to do before handing the site over to me.

One site that got mildly hit is a UK brand. It's an awesome site that I have had on my books for years. It is custom built by the same guy who has done sites for major major sites in the UK. My new client got rid of their SEO company last month and joined us. They used Xrumer directly at the site straight after losing them as a client. This annoyed me and I warned the new client, but their rankings have stayed solid.....

If WP sites got hit then maybe Google is bringing out their own 'Tumblr' to piss Yahoo off. Unless that's what their 'web design' tool is for? I dunno..

I still don't have any concrete evidence or answers as out of 25 client sites only 3 got hit hard. My SEO site which is mega spammed to death and has a mega spammed to death 301 pointing at it, has only been positive.

As the Yanks say, "go figure".

This is because Penguin is typically page/keyword specific.
That is why your "contact" "about us" page will rank higher. It is because you target page got smacked...and can't pass a certain point due to the filter.

Does anyone have an idea why it's happening?

but I think Pinguin 2.1 is targeting websites built with Wordpress

I started to notice this too.
All my wordpress sites gone and the "nonwordpress" ones got hit but regaining the positions ( slow but steady )

Maybe conspiracy, but I think Pinguin 2.1 is targeting websites built with Wordpress. Whats your experience?

I noticed most (90%) of WordPress sites got hit.

Wordpress sites didn't get hit, it just that the majority of SEO'ers use Wordpress.
Why, because they can install Yoast or All In One SEO or something similar and optimize freaking everything.
Title, url, H1, bold, italic, meta description etc.
Same with T1 linking to moneysite.

I've a feeling that Penguin 2.1 isn't just about backlinks.

Web 2.0s pointing directly at MS (nicely spun, though).

Whats nicely spun though ?
Word level, sentence level, paragraph level?
Some guys consider a WordAI spin a nice spin while pro's like Expertpeon has spuns that are < 1 meg in size

High PR blog comments (I used to buy from BHW and various other places)

Same High Pr comments that one dude buys, and then share the list amongst his Skype friends and before you know every post is either spammed to death or site owners deletes and closes all the comments within few weeks ?

Remember, the most simple answer is usually the right one.
This goes for the Tumblr blogs too.

Don't think Google Webspam Team Members ain't browsing BHW or other BH forums.
I saw the devaluation of the Tumblr blogs coming, with a simple search it was possible scrape and registered deleted Tumblr blogs with PR, setting up blogs on them and offer as a service on BST.
Tumblr was practically a tool for higher rankings and this was strike 3 for them.

I think Google randomize some of the results so people don't really know what works and what doesn't.
They want to kill SEO... If there is no pattern you could follow SEO guys will get confused and eventually stop doing it

Have a look around this forum. We're not stopping quite yet.....

Google will be gone before I am done with my SEO career. Their system is broken, they're begging you to disavow links, etc, otherwise the only shit they can rank is amazon.com and ebay...they're cornered.....

I highly agree with bartsimpson and everyone who is pissed off at this god forsaken BS update. This update isn't the death of SEO it should be the start of the SEO Revolution http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...me-search-engine-optimization-revolution.html and death of Google. The SERPs are horrible, filled with BS press releases, Youtube videos/channels and even 1 page websites with no links because they are *Squeaky clean*

I say, Fuck Google I am over their bull shit. They pushed the envelope way too far and have been doing so for the past few years. As a website designer and SEO provider I am going to recommend all of my visitors, friends, family, business contacts to start using Bing and Yahoo and start providing evidence of why Google sucks now. I am also uninstalling Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, Google + and all that other shit that Google makes you use just to warp our minds and be so heavily dependent on them.

I suggest everyone here who is frustrated with these updates to do the same. Google is the old Myspace, Bing and Yahoo the new Facebook?

Check this out brothers. Hope im not violating anything by posting. Could be the culprit.

I have a number of sites and my personal observations is this:

Those sites which tanked had the majority of backlinks pointing towards the root domain (with that page, and so the main keyword, suffering).
The sites which had backlinks pointing predominantly to inner pages have not suffered at all (some have gained).

I'm not saying this is main mechanisum behind this update or anything, I'm just throwing it out there.

On the few sites I have which have dropped in the serps I plan to simply link more of the inner pages.

Started the 301 redirect experiment to see what kind of results. Will post within the week results

IMO 301 will either work for a bit or cause you problems in the long run.

I had someone who 301'ed 2 of his old sites too the business he was paying me to do. I check rankings after Penguin update and they dropped. I found out because I was seeing these 2010 blog network links and spammed article marketing which he used on his old sites. Also think I do 4 sites for him. 2 dropped because of the one I said above and the other site he used to build links and it had bad links from the past.

The two other sites were sites done by just me and they were completely fine because there were no article marketing links or old crappy blog network links.

If you do the 301 experiment then tell us the results after the next Penguin update because they are pointless before it.

Don't let my number of post on here fool you. I have over 300 websites and some of them ranking 1 for keywords with 70,000 exact searches in highly competitive keywords. The websites that are losing ground and the ones that have too many blast 3rd tier links. I also have websites that have been help out big time with this update which have very few back-links but have some extremely high quality back links 3 tiers deep. Makes some sense cause all everyone on here does is talk about is not spamming your money site but spamming your tier 2 or tier 2 back-links.

Some people were wondering if 301s still work to recover the rankings; I can now confirm they do, as expected... I've managed to recover the rankings for one of my sites completely.

First of all, how bad was it hit?
Few spots on some kws or side-wide with all rankings gone straight to hell?

Second, give it a week or two and then please come back and update us.

Nobody said that a 301 wouldn't work, the penguin penalty will flow back to your website that's all. Please report back how many days your ranking stick before they drop.
