American Moving To London?

London is great, but I think this is a better idea: Head north to Edinburgh, where flats are much less expensive, but you still have excellent transport links and can afford to park a car...then take those extra quid that you saved on rent and hop on Ryan Air / Easy Jet flights around Europe...don't stay in hotels, rent a holiday let (google it)...cheaper, larger and you can cook your own food, which is aces when in Italy and able to source amazing produce/fish/meats/cheese/wine/etc. Someone back me up here...otherwise he's in for a rude awakening. Good on you for doing something that most people only talk about doing...

Yep, we moved out of London along time ago. Like I said, it's just my opinion. If you like it, great!!

London, Like any major city New York, Tokyo etc is a hive of life and a great place to be if you have money....

If you dont have money then you might want to look into cheaper options. Unless living in a bedsit on Baker street and hanging around sainsburys at 10pm for the 90% food offers is your thing.

I grew up in Kingston and obviously spent a lot of time in London... You either love it or hate it! It's a huge city... and like all huge cities it has it's downside.

But honestly?

I don't understand all this hate? It's a beautiful city with wonderful parks, architecture, museums and scenery... great places to grab a pint and eat some chicken pie (or shepherds pie!), the public transports are great (Don't give me any crap about them, try using the subway in Berlin or Paris... and compare the tube to those!) etc etc.. I could go on for ages.

Sure you have violence & crime... but you have that everywhere nowadays.

Check it out for yourself, I still visit London as often as I can.

Honestly? An article that tries to convince everyone how horrible London is, by using extremely sophisticated titles like "scum", "bullshit" and goes on about how "cyclists" are among the worst part?

Honestly though, having lived in London myself, I can only agree to what some others are saying - you (OP) simply have to see for yourself. You might like it, but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea! And it is expensive, just like most metropolitan areas. And of course there is crime, try coming up with even one huge city where that isn't an issue?
I love that city, but there are others as well - the UK doesn't consist solely of London

London is awesome I live in central London and if you've got the guts go for and it come.
I've done New York and Miami but I love London better.
Like I've said on this board before hit me up when you reach or even before.

Miami has some of the hottest women and the best nightlife in the world...followed by great weather. If I had to move to either London or Miami there would be a very easy decision.

Its simple......Claim you can not speak english or understand english however that will not stop you driving your BMW. Claim all then Benefits that you can get and make sure that you ask for a Benfits claims expert.....after all you want nice stuff. Then make sure that you get your teeth done free medical and dont forget that you can claim for you Kids...even though you may not have any. Then join the Labor party as the beer is cheaper then in pubs. Get pissed every night as you will have loads of money coming in and don't forget never to speak English then you will get on well with the Scots and Wales ......as for the Welsh will always say "they had it hard" and dont ever mention sheep in the company of welsh people as that will end up in an orgy.....More advice soon

There are also so many cubans there that I swear that state should be called "The United States of Cuba".

If you live in the London area what would you say to an American thinking of moving there for a few years? I am a soccer (football) lover so that does influence it =].
As for money I would be getting a job but I also have low xx,xxx passive annual income that can help support me during the transition.

London is a great city,you can party 24/7,concerts,lots of arts shit,museums,hipster stuff in camden and soho if thats your thing,football,good pubs (many plays football every day),nice parks,lots of business opportunity in the City&Docklands.I lived there for a few years and prob. moving back next year.Weather is not as bad as one would think.
I suggest you visit it for 2-4weeks and than make your decision.

Also,if you are bored in London,take the eurostar(bullet train) to paris,brussels in one hour.Discount airlines,amsterdam is 30mins,barcelona,berlin about 1h away.
