Google update just now? 10/4?

70% of my sites went up and only 1 went down , a site that I didn't build backlinks to for months and was stable at #12 now its at #22

So 1 site is 30% of your sites? Looks like you have ~3.3 sites LOL hahahaha.

My point:
1. "Authority" update - bring the sites with high authority on higher position. The most possible reason for this mass drop.
2. Penguin 2.1 - 1% is lie or it is 1%(penguin2.1)+0.1%+3%(penguin2) + panda + some animal = 80% hmm
3. Pagerank upadate - waiting for. With this the things goes mad and possibly will see 404 or database error in google soon.

One thing I don't understand about these updates

How do these giant authority sites (*cough A***** List cough*) etc etc get away with having thousands of sitewide button links (Proud Member of Etc Etc Image link) on members sites totaling millions of incoming links all passing ungodly amounts of pagerank and authority..

And they never get swatted, if us average schmucks try that we are slapped into the abyss, hell were slapped into the abyss for just about any promotion..

Think of former google head Eric Schmidts quotes:

"The internet is a cesspool, Brands are the solution.. Brands are how you sort out the cesspool."

Certain sites are white listed, period. And if your not a multimillion dollar brand, these globalist pigs don't want you there.

think you just answered it yourself. "giant authority" - it is not that hard for google to identify website which truly hold much value to readers/users and also to them.

Great replies by bartosimpsonio, Scritty and other posters (sorry, can't remember all the usernames!).

From my experience, all our WH sites have gone up with no exception. We have built a tiered pyramid with unique content on all our sites. Our tier 1s are manually written to a high degree of quality, and these sites (Tier 1) are ranking for specific keywords we ensured to target; the monthly searches for these keywords are 2000 to 3000, low to medium competition, and we are number 1 on page 1 for 20+ Tier 1 sites since late September. These Tier 1 sites have at the same time links from Tier 2 sites with manually-written content (outsourced); the content is written to a good degree of quality plus some high-quality spam (LOL, as if you could call spam "high quality"). The sites for our Tier 3 level are also manually written to a decent standard (good grammar, rich content). Those Tier 3 sites are half OK backlinks and half all-go spam.

What I have noticed from all our sites:

1) Hummingbird can crawl content and index it to a high degree of relevance upon SERPS

2) Long tail keywords are now more relevant than ever due to the increase in mobile-phone users. Our traffic exploded mostly due to LTK that are made up of 3 to 5 words

3) Spun content is taking a hit if not done properly. My belief is that the Hummingbird got smarter with reading content although the Hummingbird is yet to be a human reader

4) Long articles with plenty of associations are the winners. We are getting traffic for keywords we didn't target or even mentioning articles, albeit the targeted keywords of the articles were similar to the keywords we're getting traffic from

5) Spam still works, but we have to be smarter about it

6) Churn and burn still works, and I believe more people are being pushed into this methodology due to the fact Google is always shuffling sites with its updates. I even did some churn and burn early September as 2 of our WH money sites got mildly hit late August with a 20% drop in Google traffic; coincidentally, these 2 sites are now killing it and have doubled traffic since late September. My belief is Google was tweaking the Hummingbird all through September, just in time for the Penguin 2.1 (notice the time frame between Hummingbird's announcement and Penguin 2.1's announcement is a mere week)

These are some of my observations based on my/our WH sites and also on some test BH sites I have that either tanked or stayed more or less leveled. I could be wrong in some of my beliefs or thoughts; feel free to correct me.

By the way, our money sites compete in a 20k-to-50k-m/searches environment with fierce competition.

My 2 pesos, my friends.

Cheers

Anyone have all 100% unique hand-written articles as backlinks get hit? Anything spun does not count. If you used GSA/SENuke/Ultimate Demon this does not count.

This also assumes that your money site content is also unique and not spun. And is compliant to the previous Panda/Penguin updates for no duplicate content and overoptimization.

Thanks

We have uniquely-written content in all sites of our tiered pyramid. Was a lot of effort, but I wanted non-spun content in all 100+ sites. We have benefited plenty since late September (both money sites and Tier 1 sites) as explained previously in my post, but our competitors with spun content for Tier 2s were hit. Mind you, their pyramids were fairly crap; I'm sure well-done spun content in a well-done tier pyramid still works.

In my main niche which is extremely competitive, 9 of the top 10 are now all "giant authority" sites, with the pages that are ranking very dubiously related to the actual search topics and not helpful to what people are actually searching for. There's no question in my mind that a whitelist is playing a major role here. Also, I had one new churn and burn site that also got tanked.

I'm seeing that as well, on all terms basically I monitor (around 100+) that receive over 30k searches/mth.

Exactly same here!! What to do? Any idea? It;s too far to make any decision and better to way more days? Who knows?

I was strong affected too.... used senulexcr on the last 4-5 months ...24/7 :(

Personally, I think social traffic (FB, Stumble, Tumblr, Pinterest, etc) might better than search traffic.

For me, the conversion rates are lower, but the methods used to generate social traffic are much easier than SEO.

Three sites hit massive drops big G is just a big f**k up forever changing the rules, 1 site completely white hat unique content but still bombed in the rankings, another site which I haven't touched for a while and it's had more black hat SEO thrown at it than what's actually available on this website and didn't get affected at all WTF?

Crazy stuff crappy sites everywhere ranking on top while all the good stuff bombs like a f**ker. Oh well at least I have day job but many others don't and are in the poo but the Cutts crew don't give a shit happy to ruin peoples lives and family's futures. Back to the drawing board I think churn and burn is the way to go from now, just can't trust G with any future updates to run a proper website.

This doesn't make sense. Here is what's happening with one of my sites:
Example: when you type in "plumber cityname" it's nowhere to be found, BUT if you type in just "plumber" and you are in that city it's on the 1st page ... makes no fking sense.

That seems to be spot on - maybe relying more on a metric such as Moz trust to rank an irrelevant inner page of a giant authority site.

Jesus. I've been hit HARD.

This screenshot says it all:

One of my sites homepage ranking on page 1, nowhere to be seen.. but an inner page of my site is appearing on #73 for that keyword... wtf

Seeing some real shitty inner pages of sites ranking "Contact pages" and crap like that - totally useless for searchers....

That is precisely what I found with the site I own, and truly don't care about. The contact page is the first result for the brand name targetted keyword, which dropped several results down. The homepage is actually the last result of the group (standard keyword query, not site\info: )

Did you by chance do brand name queries and find this result too, or was it non-brand keywords? (As you mentioned, they're still in the process of shuffling the results, so it's too early to point a finger, I'm just curious).

This is what I can see happening across my sites:

1. Whitehat Sites
My one and only whitehat authority site with hundreds of pages of quality content, images etc has dropped off the face of the earth. This is a site i regularly invest in. It's actually a hobby of mine that I have a real passion about. This site is also backed by traffic that comes from a Facebook fan page with 350,000 active and real fans along with a twitter following of around 20,000 real twitter followers.

In terms of back linking profile, this site only has around 1,000 back links. Some of those are web 2.0 with spun content and a decent amount of diversity in terms of link profiles. There is also a decent amount of organic linking to my site where people have used my images and have provided credits on their site! One link is even from the sun newspaper in the uk!

The site is around 5 years old. The last time I checked it was a PR4 site (not that even matters anymore).

Now here's the real kicker: The moment I post up any new article I easily get 400-4000 organic likes from Facebook and retweets from twitter, yet this site has been affected. So I have absolutely NO FAITH in what hummingbird or social signals are supposedly going to do for quality sites. It's absolute BULLSHIT and Matt Cutts is just a puppet for an evil organisation that has lost it's passion and original meaning.

2. Old sites with little to no link building
These sites were nowhere to be seen. All of a sudden they are climbing in the SERPS. some already in the top 10. I have done NO link building on these. Just good old fashioned on page SEO and quality content.

3. EMD's
Some of my EMD's that I was about to give up on have risen from the dead. 3 of them have gone from nowhere to climbing up at least 270 spots and sitting around the Top 30.

3. New sites
All my new sites are thriving in this new wave of SERP movements. Some have gone to Top 3, some have even got to Top 20.

4. Websites part of Blog network, Paid links
These continue to suffer in SERPS for me. They have maintained an already dismal SERP after this new alleged update.

I'm not so pissed about my non important sites that have been affected. But I am absolutely pissed that my one and only hobby site with real fans has been affected. Thankfully I have never relied on google to bring my traffic as mine comes from my social media profiles - but it's a shame i can't take my site and my passion to the next level.
