Rep doesn't really mean anything. You can make a bunch of funny post and jokes and out-rep someone who only post knowledgeable info related to IM.

Disabling the rep in lounge, will make atleast a few 5k rep ppl into the 100's

Rep means nothing. It just means one member clicked the add reputation button instead of the thanks button. Though appreciated, still means nothing to anyone with a real money making agenda. The only thing I see when I see rep is a random score. Contributions, whether they are physical or motivational, are what counts.
What I don't like seems to happen in all forums eventually. Fake posters that complain about a problem, about a certain company then it gets magically resolved a few posts later or their questions about the company are so benign you realize they are just doing it to spread their company name and attempting to lure newbies into their failing affiliate company. I claim they are failing because they can't afford forum bhw advertising or maybe just talking about the company name is more effective advertising, i haven't run an experiment on this yet.... but i wouldn't be surprised if some rep circle members are selling their forum accounts.....just saying. ;-)

There are some members who sincerely care about 'rep circles' and the degradation of BHW like OP. On the other hand, there are dipshits who bitch about it just because they have something personal. Most of them fall in the latter category.

The easiest solution to stop this rep mongering in its tracks, is to reset the rep counters to ZERO....for everyone....
Those who don't care about reps, won't mind this. Those who belong to rep circles, will have to start all over again. It becomes easier to track and smack rep circles this way...
Say, something like this happened a long time ago, I think....any old members remember this?...did we not lose all our reps or itraders overnight??

I can't say it upsets me at all. I've not been around here an awful long time but already I have gotten a flavour for the character of the regulars.
Where rep matters is when you come across something by someone who you have never seen before, and it gives you an idea of who that person is. But I stress it's just an idea nothing more. I will be no more than I am today when I have a thousand posts.
I suspect the complaints reflect the maturity of the poster.

Sounds logical from someone that posts in 4 years what high rep members post in one month. I imagine you'd love to drop everyone to your level. Yeah lets slap everyone that kept this forum alive with discussion, contributing to its growth, the last 4 years while you couldn't be bothered.

I think everybody is missing the essence of my opening post.
If REP means nothing and is bullshit then why does anything have to change?
If REP is not bullshit then what does it signify and how important is it?
What constitutes a REP worthy post/thread?
Surely giving REP is acknowledgement that an INDIVIDUAL finds a post relevant, informative, useful or amusing.
So, what I find interesting and REP worthy, somebody else may not, or are we all supposed to REP the same posts.
The only feature that might need changing is the ability to give anonymous NEG REP.
I have no objection to losing the REP, THANKS and ITRADER features but if we go down that route then I would also like to see custom avatars and signature spaces disappear.
As I said previously, I really only come here to read and crack the odd joke so everything else is a distraction anyway.
So in summary, the purpose of this thread was meant for people to decide if REP IS bullshit.
If it IS bullshit and we all agree it is bullshit, then why does it need changing.
If it is decided to get rid of REP then why don't we get rid of the THANKS and iTRADER too as these can be abused in the same way.
If we have agreed that REP is a nonsense metric then why does it matter IF people are REP WHORES or even if REP CIRCLES do exist?

Can't believe there's rep circles what's the end goal?. I think the only reason people would want fake rep either
1.They plan to scam at some point and need a good account.
or
2.They have low self esteem and it makes them feel good.
That said I don't think the rep system should be killed.
A lot of the guys with high rep have given back and received the rep for the great shares/methods. I doubt there intentions where to gain rep only to help people.
