So, me and my friend have been discussing, if you have a website about let's say payday loans, then we all know you should build some backlinks related to that keyword and also include your keyword along with regular generic ones and also insert your keywords into your content. What we were discussing is, what if your backlinks never contained your keyword? would that mean you would never rank for them? what if your backlinks only consisted of "click here, click there, follow this link, etc". Would you just get some residual ranking?

What do you think?

GOD BLESS!

I can stop you at your first sentence and judging by your questions behind that say one thing.

Choose a different niche, Learn more about SEO before you try to tackle the single hardest niche to crack with the most manual reviews.

Good Luck!

Check out the SEO guide from KIMI it should answer a lot of your questions moving forward.

in time your DA will improve if your links are good enough and your domain will start ranking for the highest density of recorded keywords

THIS! this is what I responded!, because he was wondering how those pages on the new york times etc ranked without specific anchor text backlinks, they just rank.

You didn't really understand the question.

If the links with generic anchors are placed in niche relevant content/site, you will rank for your targeted keywords.

Though, it's very rare to see that people are only using generic anchors :)

Ethanmitchel,

Its not like you would never rank for that keyword. The anchor text is helpful however it is not necessary in order for a link to be beneficial. Another thing to keep in mind is that just because you have links pointing to your site that have your keyword as anchor text, does not mean they will be beneficial. In fact, if you have a link pointing at your site with your target keyword as anchor text and the page it points to has nothing to do with the keyword, it could actually have a negative impact on your site.

Best,

Shawn

Op how can you compare your new website with new york times? Millions of them people know them but who knows your website.

Would be an interesting case study ;) I believe this is the correct answer:
in time your DA will improve if your links are good enough and your domain will start ranking for the highest density of recorded keywords

though could see it being very long term in ranking for page/content keywords.
