Very illegal and assholish. Thats stealing. I don't agree with it at all because its hurting people. Blackhat techniques are great when they are only unethical. Yep I wouldn't do it myself, but like I say there are people in the UK - law firms whose customers include the BBC - who are getting away with it. And no, they do not have to verify your IP. It's extortion. Check this link for more proof.

It's really shit when companies, so called 'legal' entities can go around threatening innocent individuals with court, fines etc. when they do not have a shred of evidence - except an out of date IP address which could have been easily forged or hacked wirelessly.

Only 2 weeks ago I got a letter threatening me with court action for a service with Usenext which I stopped over 2 years ago. Unbelievable. Thing is, people pay them, that's the problem.

When your granny gets a letter through the door saying pay up or else what's she going to do?

Companies like this need stopping but the UK government seems hell bent on virtually encouraging them. Must be a good source of tax, that's all I can say.

It might be detected by some anti virus as it will try to connect to the internet without the users permission.

Didn't say I would be doing it by the way. Read the thread. This IS happening in the UK right NOW carried out by large London based law firms.

You ISP is not obliged to pas on any personal information... The least that would happen is your ISP will send the person the infringement notice, stating that if they dont stop they will close there account... Thats it!

jonny......on the surface this seems like an awesome idea to make some cash. However, I feel like if you get caught for doing this you could be seriously screwed. I seems like you have some pretty big balls for even suggesting an idea like this. You should do it for a week or something and make a little money, but don't get greedy or you could end up in serious shit.

I don't support this as a means to make cash, but I do support the anarchistic behavior. Why should only record companies be allowed to sue when someone downloads a file with such and such a name or copyright info on it? The whole system is farked. If you can do this as a spoof of the idiocracy of the system I fully support it.

Actually handling the cash is an issue, it is completely illegal and 25 years behind bars with Bubba isn't all that fun.
