Long story short: I have just had admission from my hosting provider that they accidentally deleted my WP Database. Obviously this means that I have lost everything on my site. The site was for a client I have charged and should have been going live today. As a result I will have to work 2 full days to get back to where we were and I have other work / jobs to be getting on with.
This is their last message to me:
Hi xxx
Thank you for your patience while we investigated this for you.
The problem seems to have occurred because of a service restart at the exact moment another user attempted to create a wordpress install. This looks to have allowed the second user to create a database on the same server as you with the same name which caused the data loss in your account. This should never be able to happen and we have taken steps to further ensure this can never happen again going forward. I am extremely sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.
On the whole they have been very good to me and I have not had problems with them before, this looks rooky mistake to me but we are talking about a massive company.
So how should I proceed with this? Should I ask for compensation? If so what should I ask for? I am a reseller of ther hosting accounts and pay a yearly fee and re-sell web hosting packages. I do very well from it but this is unacceptable as far as I am concerned.
Let me know what you think I should do. Very pissed off today... My backup of the DB is too old to be used (doh!) and theirs has too be lost!
