is having your own private blog network really this expensive?

let's do some calculations.

at the minimum, you need 100 authority domains. let's say you buy each one for $10. That's $1000 per year just for the domains.
Then you will need 100 different hosting accounts. Let's say each one is $5/month. That's $500 per month or $6000 per year for hosting.

so you are going to be spending $7000 a year? damn that's a lot.
is my calculation wrong? is it possible to pay less somehow?

How about $2 / month per site for hosting? Then you're looking at $200 / month for hosting. And with domains, that's no more than $300 / month.

If you can't make that back with the network then you have no business owning one imo.

I don't have time to get into everything, but 100 is definitely not the minimum for a network. If you can find good enough domains then you can build a pretty decent one with just 20-50 domains.

If u know finding domains then $10 per domain is the one and only price.
There are many sellers those sell dropped domains. They all register them for $10 per year only.
I have registered many quality pr6 for $10 each. When i say quality domain then i mean it......
For 100 hi pr network, expense would be something like this -->
$1000 for domains.
Hosting - if u choose crap seo hosting then $2 per month per ip.
If u go with dedicated ips OR a vps and then multiple ips on it then $4 per month per ip atleast.

For networks those i use solely for my sites, i host approx. 5-6 domains on one ip and i buy hosting from standard providers eg justhost, hostgator, bluehost....

Those standard companies are not under google radar bcoz thousand of domains are blending on each ip.
Also it really does not matter if u have links from different 10 ips or 30 ips. Atleast my experience says that. As long as domains are different, hosting 5-6 domains on one ip really does not matter..

Op, who said you will get authority domains just in $10. Normal domain for blog network cost from $30-$2000/per domain and you need C-class Ip's and a lot of other things also your blog network will not live for many years.

I don't think you can get 100 authority domains with $1000, far from that.

Running your own blog network can be really expensive, but you don't have to start with 100 domains. You can start with 5, 10, 25 or whatever is suitable for your budget. Better results with small quality network than big, spammy network.

and @OP..just google for $1 per month hosting and you will find many of them offering those..OR you could simply host them on free hosts like blogger, weebly and others..only problem here is that you risk on losing your content anytime but pretty cheap considering you are on tight budget

Yeah meathead is right $7k/year would be nothing for a private network. There is a huge cost involved but there is also plenty to gain.

Auction price: $12-200 each PR 3+ domain
1 year registration: $12 each
whois privacy protection: ~$5 each
hosting: $2-3 per month per IP: $200 for 100 domains

There is difference.... Aged domains (gd auction aged domains) always matters a lot.... But one can go with dropped domains too... If anyone want to go with aged domains then pricing would be really high.....

With this kind of strategy, it's going to be a wild goose chase.

Why not private network?

Private network is more powerful, less expensive, more secured and much more.

What's the PR of the $10 domain, n/a or PR0 i guess then worthless.

Instead buy PR4+ authentic domains and convert to private networks.

You really don't need that much to get on top 5, with a budget of $1,800 to $3000 a year per site you are done..

$10 can get you any pr domain. U just need to know to find them. I have bought 10+ PR6 domains and they were solid ones.

What do you guys mean by private network? I imagine you can still use web2.0 platforms like wordpress for the websites in your network. So what makes it private?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that they're saying a private network as in a privately hosted network. As in a VPN or VPS like Digital Ocean.
