How does a website with 400BL beat a website with 4000BL

Thank you all for replying. This is alot to take in but I definitely going to and willing to put as much work into this as it needs. :D

Just remember: Quality > Quantity. You can have 100,000 shit quality backlinks that will rank you lower than someone with 100 high quality backlinks.

Nowadays google is more of high quality than number of backlinks
So quality matters over quantity.
1 backlink from pr 5 site is equal to 100 backlinks from pr 0 type of sites. This is just an example.
So if you want to build links or want to buy then go buy some high pr blog posts or guest blog posts that are related to your niche and you should sail through

you know, quantity also does matter, if the quality of links is the same, then their amount is what counts plus good onsite SEO and you're top1 :D

(how simple is that? :D)

I don't count backlinks myself, I count backlinking domains, this give me a fairly accurate estimation. But of course,
quality counts, no doubt about that.

Why would you assume those link exchanges are crap? On the contrary, as is very evident by your own investigation, exchanging links with other sites in your niche is a very effective way to drive rankings. You can forget all the BS Matt Cutts says about this being ineffective and cause for potential flags, that's just more scare tactics to get marketers and companies to buy into Adwords .... sites linking back and forth to each other within their industry is completely natural, and most do, again just as a natural course of their own commercial development.

There is no free magic system
You wither buy quality links
Backlinks on relevant high PR sites with low OBL

Join a private blog farm
make your own one

Or if you want blackhat, buy sape links
not recommended for brick and mortar businesses

Buy some High PR DA PA domains with backlinks already there and do a 301 redirect

Or so what the rest of us do
Roll up our sleeves and get to work

OP, you got it all here, Nanavlad give's you one off the best advices i have ever seen on BHW. Not many BHWM share this info!

Here's a chart demonstrating the value of each ranking factor checked against 300,000 websites...

It looks like this suggests number of backlinks don't have as much weight on ranking as they used to.

It looks like good content that is shared is the way to go.

If you really think that they beat you because they have those crappy directory links, then just go submit to the directories...

If deep down you know it is because their content is better, with more fresh updates, with more keyword relevence, with more social signals, with pretty much everything Tangy posted up there.... then you better get to work as nothing is easy.

I really cannot believe people still claim social signals work... absolutely ridiculous

I never understood how google can find facebook likes.

Example.

you have a website with a like box to like your PAGE, not your site. So if you have a 1000 likes, how will google know that is your website they are liking.

How will google know people share your website, when they are not friends with those people and cant crawl the profile.

Someone please clarify how to make social signals so that google can see it.

quality > quantity?
Why not both? :|

Social media signals are useful, and google can see them, facebook pages are public depending on the setting you set, and so are facebook shares. and google finds out because you link to your facebook page and your fb page links to you.
