How to Become a Graphic Designer?

I'm going to take a slightly different tact than many of the people on this thread so far, and by no means is what I have to offer more valuable, only different.

I have been doing graphic design for local businesses in my area for several months and have had a really great response from them regarding my work. The way I learned was by simply looking up what I wanted to do on Google or Youtube. I think one of the other members already stated that your question could easily be addressed by Google and I agree. The only difference, is that instead of trying to learn "graphic design" or how to be a "designer," learn what it is you want to do right now. Want to learn how to take an image and make the edges cleaner? Google that. Want to create a certain look or achieve a style with text or 3d effects? Google that. Whatever it is you want to achieve, simply look it up and there will almost always be a youtube video walking you through the entire process step by step.

There are plenty of video and other tutorials for graphics design. Get photoshop and start looking up tutorials and following the steps. Also I recommend doing a search for "graphic design syllabus", that will pull up alot of info from schools outlining what they teach in their graphics design course(s). Then consider going to school. I'm on the fence about going to school for graphics design though. I have friends that went and are jobless and in debt, while other people didn't go and are more successful. You can teach someone the steps, but you can't teach talent. Best of luck!

there are many tutorials how to start with photoshop many of them are even on youtube, i think you should start there if you dont want to spend to much money on the schools, and anything else is your imagination. good luck

1. Software - Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
2. Hardware - You obviously have a PC already, get yourself a drawing tablet (no professional graphic designer uses a mouse for drawing).
Read e-books, blogs and forums, dedicated to graphic design. Search for tutorials (text and videos) on particular issues you want to solve. For an instance, type in google "how to make whateveryouwanttomake with Photoshop").
4. Consult real life or internet fellow designers.
5. Never give up when facing difficulties. They are an essential part of each growing process.

If you want to be best designer, firstly learn manual Drawing, which is the most important part of the digital design, once your hands are expert in manual drawing or you can say fine arts, then you will automatically works on softwares, remember one tip that concept without tool or tool without concepts both are useless. So learn fine arts and more over observe your environment, a best designer always make designs from its around environment. Hope its help you.

College or self teaching yourself. I would suggest taking cheap online courses in things like photoshop and adobe. Having a knack for art and alignment helps. Look at what others do and look all around you.

i read this thread and most of ppl said satrat oor becoome an Graphic Design with Photoshop, i think you get a little mistake if you do that, Photoshop is a very little main tool you use. Draw vector is more necessary, you should start by re-draw some logos (from easy to hard) and stationaries moock-up , the next things i think impoortant are Typo (this is very impoortant), rules of ratio obj. Graphic Design is not only creative but conformity.

Join a school or hire a teacher you learn yourself from YouTube tutorials etc.

Go to psd sharing website/blog like premiumpixel or 365psd. Open the psd file on Photoshop. Learn how the designer play with the layer and properties. Create a new layer and try to produce the same image/style.
