skill? web development which is coding and a little graphic design... You can whip out more projects if you can make your own site... and a good landing page can increase conversions just as much as good sales copy. It's also a good trade if you ever need a "real" job!

I am going to drop in a vote for social media. If you know social very well and can get tons of real followers on twit, fb, g$$gle, etc. then you can bank hard on those alone without even starting a regular webpage.
You must learn "How to Google ? " fed up of newbies posting queries which can easily be answered by a simple search.
Apart from that I think coding and graphics work is extremely important if you want to portray your idea in best way possible . But what more important is "DEDICATION" .
I.M. is not a get rich quick scheme so you must be dedicated and willing to take "ACTION".

... and yes I agree, there are some "huge pile of shitty posts" as you so eloquently described,
but it is a public forum after all, we have a responsibilty to press the Report button if it is anything undesirable;
otherwise, if it is of zero interest, then just don't bother reading / posting, this is often the best way.

but that wouldn't be correct for my part
or the ability to 'search' like other people said, which is true.
but the main reason is IM is huge, it have millions niches, tricks and competition.
i would say my number 1 skill is to love what u do, find something you get inspired by, something u can do everyday.
it is just like marriage, 1 thing, stick with it and be boss at that field
and from all what i said above i say, the skill to find your self a niche that u love and sticking with what u love even when people says that niche ( field) you are in suxs big time.

most precise and accurate answer I believe, through my own IM experience. I am not totally agreed with those who favored coding as major part of IM. instead of spending time on coding It is always good to outsource it. there are other major things in IM we can spend our time on it since there are experts who can code your ideas and one can use their own time on other activities. IM is for sure need money to invest. one can not be succeeded if don't spend money on their IM projects. but one thing is for sure, to be successful in online marketing an IM must be very good in SEO.
