Question about google dances

I have some two month~ old websites that have been dancing for the last 2-3 weeks, one has just returned from a dance (just realized how weird that sounds). The others are still currently dancing. My questions are:

• Does adding quality links to them before they dance or while they are dancing determine the amount of time the dance will last?
• Are there any other factors that influence dance time?

I read some article about the dance being caused by google server updates, is this true?

+1 - keep building links. It's natural to experience some dances if you start building links a bit faster than usual. Whatever you do, don't make any drastic changes, keep up with a certain link velocity and over time you'll settle in the ranks.
