How many People Hate Hostgator hosting ?

I host all my domestic (no DDOS risk, no sketchy/shady subject matter) websites and clients on a hostgator reseller. It's cheap and it works- if you're on their reseller plan and on a good server.

If you keep having downtime show up in logs, request a move to another node.

If you need a LOT of space, bandwidth, and personal attention, or have a resource hog site to host, for example, then they probably won't do.

Truthfully I hosted a vBulletin board that had about 500 people online at any given time and over 200k registered members off a godaddy shared hosting account- and I was sucking up over two grand in "donations" per month. People think you need dedicated servers just to run a board these days, suckers. Of course, those of us who run boards will band together to repeat how expensive it is. Wouldn't want those donations to slack off

I would never run a forum with 500 people active at all times on shared hosting because of the terrible speed, reliability, and technical support. I mean, if you really were making $2000 on donations a month, investing $100 into your monthly hosting seems like the logical thing to do.. But maybe that's just me....

I've NEVER had issues with them and I've used HG off and on for close to a decade

I hade some problems with them too. They asked me a prove of my bank account that doesn't exist in my country (france), so I had to build one with photoshop

Hostgator is overrated in my opinion.. I used them for a couple of months, but then they started to charge extra, so i just found my local provider which is better than the most worldwide providers either with speed and quality. They give unlimited resources, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited domains and space etc. and it costs about 7 USD. Compared with lots of problems i have had with Hostgator such as constant CPU Over usage and them blocking me once in a while.. I am never going back to them

i never hated them (years without a single problem) till the recent upgrades.
now it's working again without a problem so I hope the upgrade issues are over.

Likewise. They worked like a charm for years, but with the recent upgrades I've had a thoroughly irritating amount of downtime.

Things seem to have mellowed out, let's pray that it stays that way.

Aside from the above issues, I'd recommend them wholeheartedly. The support has always been helpful and effective, and the hosting itself is pretty sound.

I'm not with them anymore but when I was with them they were great, support was awesome as well.
The great thing is you have many options when it comes to hosting elsewhere.

Hostgator has worked for me for a long time, within the last year or so I have had some problem, but I am still using them. I also use Godaddy witch has seemed to really start to pic up there game in terms of up time and server errors but they still have to work on the support aspect of there hosting service. I really hope that hostgator gets all the problems worked out and keeps there service going because there support team is second to none in my experience.

Are you a Godaddy rep? haha. Godaddy are the worse, I will never use them again.

Regards to hostgator i've never really had that many problems with them.

But here's the great part, it ran about as good as on a dedi. Light (php+sql forums) sites are only resource hogs if someone has screwed up the configuration and server settings.

There's stuff that will make you really need a dedi (take d2jsp for example- they have a much more intensive system so a dedi is necessary for their board) but overall a RESELLER hosting account on HG will handle a board no problem, and so will godaddy's shared.

Don't let on to the rest of the world though, people gotta keep believing they "need" those big dedi fees.

I have been using HostGator for 2 years....
Only one issue last September when my hosting account got hacked.
And til now, no other issues.
The server response time is quite fast, as I'm from Hong Kong, I tried many other hosting company, HG gives the fastest connection speed

I have set my reseller account and renewals to the lowest possible pricing. I think hosting is $2 something. Also the renewal rate does not go up ever. Check out http://www.discount-domains.org
