[Method] Turn $20 Into $1,000 in 10 Days

So you made some crappy site, that wasn't ranked in Google, emailed 50 dentists and 19 agreed to pay you $200 to be listed on said crappy site?
Yeah I bet.

That's right, he basically rehashed his old "method" where he was charging businesses for listings on not ranked, zero traffic directories.

I guess you can call this smart marketing (and not snake oil salesman) if he clearly states in his pitch that:

"Listings won't bring you any benefits, it's just something to brag about to your friends!"

Sorry OP but I am with Mickyfu on this.

In your OP you stated 'this is a method I created'.

It is not a method you created - you read Dark One's method and implemented it yourself.

You couldn't even be bothered changing the profession he gave in his example - he used Dentists and you did exactly the same thing.

No twist, no creativity.

And then you try to pass it off as your own method.

It's good that you read the forum and it's good that you try the methods you find - that's what this forum is all about.

But don't copy someone's method to the letter and then try to pretend you invented it.

Seriously? All I did was put this to action and made it work and wanted to share the success and ideas with others and that's all. I'm sorry if this post in any way upsetted you.

This is a pretty good idea. However they must ask you straight forward if you have any traffic, what you usually say?

This only works if your doctors and dentists don't understand about site ranking, unless you use a longtail emd and get ranked within the week...

Overselling "exclusive" features is bad practice though.

The power of the OP's version of this concept is precisely that it does NOT depend on SEO or site ranking to work. Ranking would make it bank better, yes, but would also bring long-term labor into the picture to keep the site ranked high. The variation of just offering a one-off fee for a one-off listing puts closure on ongoing maintenance, thus increasing the total ROI.

Many local professionals still think of a website as merely a billboard, and not as their main source of clients. They may put up a site, but it's mainly a way to park a digital business card out in cyberspace for vanity purposes, to project their professional image. If they don't care about site ranking, we can make offline marketing money both ways, from 1) just getting them to pay for a one off listing, or 2) then upselling them about creating or improving traffic to their own site.

So you're saying you'd buy an add on this billboard:

And maybe I'll up sell you for cutting the branches?

Yes mate this method 100% words till yet. I have tried this with one of my friend and its still working. No doubt its a super cool method.

I sent out (and successfully inboxed) just over 600 emails last night and, aside from a handful of "out of office" emails, not a single person replied.

Allow some additional time for a response. You'll get more responses and interest usually towards the weekend usually on Friday and sometimes even a higher response rate on Saturdays.

As old as this method is I suspect it still works and pretty much always will.

The obvious question is how are you ranking this domain in such a short period of time?
out of 19 clients none of them asked what kind of traffic your review site was getting?
ya that only nobody agrees without asking how much traffic does your site gets and all...!

You'd be surprised. None of the clients I signed up seemed to be too concerned about this.

I do some version of this method except I sell mobile websites. It works, but it takes some time to see action (you have to work for a good 3-4 days before you crack it)

Instead of emailing, do cold calling and close on the phone. It takes me about 300-500 calls to close a sale and I do that in 1-3 days. At $250 a sale, you can easily pay rent with a good week of work.

This gives them ZERO value...and business owners are not stupid (although someone paying $200 to be listed on a site that probably isn't even indexed is slightly retarded)...but they will soon realize that they pissed away $200 and that just gives your business a bad name and a reputation of not providing any value.

So you made a quick $200....but that is all you will make from that business.

Why not put some real effort in and build them a lead capture page or something...get the deign job....then sell them seo....then ppc....etc, etc.

To just make a quick $200 and give them nothing of value is the same as stealing their wallet and taking $200 from it. Seriously, what in the world does this do to benefit them?!

Nice idea, I wonder if it's not too effective on busy area. I mean a city with many dentist office will probably have tough competitor too. Targeting KW for dentist + busy city name + review, this kind of short keyword, not sure our webpage will be ranked that fast (10 days?)
OR the whole idea of promoting the dentist office is just for a show?

500 calls for a single sale? Wow, that's a far cry from the claims that the OP is making. (19 sales per 50 emails and those are emails, not phone calls).

EDIT: Sent out another 700 emails and all I've gotten back so far is one inquiry asking me how to unsubscribe from my list. So I guess that means that I'm 0 for 1,000+ at the moment. Bear in mind that these leads are targeted.

It's clearly not an issue of bad luck - it's a problem with your approach.
Either your emails aren't appealing enough or your leads aren't as targeted as you think.

Maybe try a more personal approach. Phone calls, face-to-face meetings, or even letters akin to the 7878 method.
Emails are increasingly becoming recognized as spam. Imagine how many spammy emails a business owner gets every day.

Yeah that's a one call close, but for appointment setting, the conversion rate is much better. A newbie following a script can get an appointment every 100 calls.

Simple and great way to start earning some cash!

Thank you
