Paypal Chargebacks and Negative Balance

You are making a mistake here. The sum which had been given to him was taken back. That's done. He himself spent $900 from his paypal account. That's not anyone's fault except for himself...

yeh,i would spend the money also ,nobody is waiting 2 weeks to see if they are chargeback or not

Pay the balance, otherwise they will eventually send you to paypals internal collections, then if you refuse to pay them at that point they will send you to an actual collection agency. That will destroy your credit and trust me that is the LAST thing you would want. Pay it, without a doubt.

you must be drunk

Well your account will go into bad standing with PayPal and be suspended, then they will send it to collections. Which will ding your credit. In the long run you're better off just paying it even though it's not your fault.

Yes, then you will pay the money back too! I am not telling you to not spend the money. What I am telling you is, if you spend $900, you will have to pay that $900, which paypal now requires him to. Unfortunately most of the card companies allow to chargeback within the 6 months of purchase. So, there is no other way around. Makes sense?

Paypal is a big company. If they decide to send agents to collect the negative balance from all the negative balance holder especially for sums like $300. $700 and even $900, they need to spend a lot of money for sending agents and to take some legal action against you.

If the negative balance is greater than $3000-4000 then only you need to worry.
Its all my thoughts I can't guarantee anything

what about if the agent is a sweet girl and he want to collect 300$ , after i have some great moments with his ass ,i can pay 600$ back ?just asking

I understand the point you are trying to make OP. You offered a "good" and received money for it, however the money was fraud. You never received the "good" back and now paypal wants its money back, so you will be out the $900 you made, plus the "good". It's a shitty situation to be in.

Exactly what I am trying to point out. I wouldn't spend $900 in 2 weeks if that's all I had in my account earned selling a digital good. Careless is the word that comes to my mind after seeing this.

Lots of bullshit and misinformation in this thread.

Minors cannot be held legally responsible for any debt. - Fact. (in the USA, at least)

You have no fear of debt collections agencies or anything else ruining your credit for this reason. The biggest reason is that it's just a small amount of money!

Did you deliver the item with signature confirmation?

You need to close the bank account or at least block the charge and remove the credit card from the account. They will try to correct the negative balance, but they're not going to send agents.... lol. This wasn't even your fault. If you proved that you shipped it, you won't be held responsible anyway.

its not his fault... a users pays him 900$ for an item
scooter withdraws the money and spends it.
the other guy gets the item, then a fraud payment is
charged, thats not scooters fault

paypal refunds the payment, the asshole gets the
product and scooter is left with a debt not of his
making

Scooter, I feel your pain. I'm literally exactly -$900 in the hole on PayPal from a guy who charged back his credit card company saying it was a fraudulent payment. PayPal automatically sides with the buyer, because supporting the seller would cost them more money in the long run (they assume).

Our transactions happend in December and he didn't charge back until 3 months later in March. For the first 3 months PayPal emailed me lots, then sent me a letter that it was being sent to a collection agency. I called the agency and explained I had been scammed and exactly how I was scammed, also stated I had evidence. I also said before I pay a penny of the debt I need PROOF of debt (it's difficult for PayPal to get proof), and if they contacted me anymore before sending proof I would file harassment with an attorney.

Needless to say the lady I spoke to at the agency was understanding, and seemed to actually side with me. I have heard nothing since then.

Also note that the top 3 credit reports DO NOT except PayPal debt to hurt your credit.

Best of luck

-LK

Yes that's obviously right. I am not saying that it is OP's fault(the transaction obviously). It is just the way that online transactions work. We all know it( and who could know it better than you?). I am myself against that 180 days Chargeback policy that many banks have. If you see the original post, you will see that OP sold some virtual good, not real stuff. If he sold some real stuff, he could then track the fraud easily and take legal action against him, which is not always possible for digital stuffs as you know very well. What he spent from his account are all counted at the end of the day.

Talking about legal action? That is something that he should now think of, instead of running away from collection agents or whatsoever.

I have been in the intangible item business for a long time.. Things like this are a cost of business. You could ignore it and it may not ever go anywhere. But there is also the chance they will eventually sell there debts to collection agencies which will then hound the shit out of you. If you ever wish to use PayPal again you would need to pay it.. lol

I know how you feel, I had a chargeback for a virtual item and was in the hole -500$. I rang paypal numerous times and even when your provide evidence they have no way of turning it round.
