Scared about privacy as a marketer

Is anybody here scared about their privacy. Such things include Google knowing not only all your marketing information but also your personal information. So really Google knows that you promote X product and that you like Y videos in your free time. Anyways to circumvent this issue. And also your opinions.

I find the neither scary nor intrusive. Have you ever though "How is Google so successful"? By offering things that the general public wants. That is my personal view, I am sure that you guys have your own.

What do you think Google is going to do - take out an ad in your hometown paper to advertise your personal information? They only use your personal information to customize your browsing.
I'd be a lot more concerned about them knowing what you do to promote your sites, and penalizing you in the SERPs - and there are measures you can take to at least prevent as much of that as possible.

That is why I am consumed, them linking my private life with my profesinal one, linking and profiling all my web properties into one big bowl, if they don't like just one little thing I do online they will penalize my who life and career forever.

I'm using startpage.com for most of my searches, the rest remains a problem. Most concerning for me is the gmail, I probably wouldn't let my own mother read it but google knows everything

I know, that is my main point, however how is that possible when Google is profiling everything that we do on the internet, every website, every keyword, everything. It is easy in the real world but how can we do it with in the technical age?

Google could collect and sell such data and profiles to organizations such as revenue services in third countries. There are various ways for them to sell personal and business data.

I actually had a security issue a couple of weeks ago, it's a long story, so I won't go into the details, only to say I have my money site plastered all over my vehicle, and a very nasty, very ice addicted person took offense to my wife, and saw the vehicle. Now while my website doesn't list my home address it's not very hard for anyone to work out where the business is based, which is my home.

Suffice to say I'm now almost $1000 poorer, but now have 4 CCTV camera's filming my property 24/7.

Given that in exchange they provide me with not only most of my livelihood, they also offer me multiple great services that I want to use, then yes I see that as a fair exchange.

Yes, that is common sense, but I mean from a technological point.

That is absolutelly not possible. Everyone I know (who is running a successful business) is mixing it with personal life, you can't just turn off your mind and stop thinking about IM just because you're home now. Your money depend on IM and it's a big part of your life. It's all together.

It is very much so possible. The whole purpose of having your money making money for you is to not have to worry about making it in the future.

Our minds, as entrepreneurial as we may be, may keep us thinking about a new business/accomplishment while driving to the store but that doesn't necessarily mean that we're working or mixing business and personal.
