Well there'll be no anti-laptop comments from me.
I have used laptops exclusively for 15 years for the same reasons you mentioned. I bought my first desktop only a few months ago but now I have 1 desktop and 2 laptops on my desk.
I always go for the largest screen possible and the extra weight doesn't worry me - they do tend to spend more time on a desk than being carried.
The only advice I would give is to have as many USB connections as possible (I find I need more with a laptop) and get the highest spec your budget allows for.

Well Hp but buying things from china lol you'll only use it about 5 months and it will stop working trust me i've been there so CHINA not an option

Dont go for a Macbook. Just an over priced pain in the arse I ended up giving mine to my mum as I had little to no use for it. Hardly any SEO software works on it and dual operating systems...well it just doesnt work as it should in my opinion.
I Just bought a Dell Inspiron for about 500-600 quid. i7 overclocked at 3.4. paid under 100 quid for 16 gigs of ram. Runs like a dream for how cheap it was.
I'd also say that if your staying put buy a tower. Much more power for your money. then just stripe your current laptop down to the bear bones (no music/movies/porn just essentials) for one the go SEO

I don't do much work on laptops but whenever I travel, its always something I take.
I currently have a Dell and a Macbook Pro (writing this on my Mac).
Me, personally, I like the Macbook Pro. However, yes, it does suck if you want to run a few SEO tools and for that I go to my Dell. So all in all, Im satisfied but with your budget and your requirements, a Dell laptop is what Il recommend.

It was a -$500 promo on the Dell website. Its back up to $1299 now.
Ended up heading to Australia for a while and needed a new laptop and just came across it.
Have a look on the coupon sites there are often pretty good deals from dell.
EDIT:
Heres the best they have at the moment in there coupon section (the Inspiron 17R)
its in Aussy dollars but that's around 600 quid.

Macbooks are junk. Especially if your ganna invest 700 Euros it's probably the worst decision you could ever make. Ultimately, it depends what you want to do with the laptop, what your ganna use if for, what kind of programs you'll be running. Then you can decide what your best option is.

I am very happy with my VAIO. Great keyboard, display, and never run hot because it's magnesium. I've used many laptops and still find vaios best after mac. Not commenting what is overpriced of course.

you either go for ASUS or straight away a mac btw the reason i did not suggest you others is bcoz Dell, Sony etc. dont manufacture and M/B,HDD or anything all they do is outsource from eevrywhere and assemble it but when you look at ASUS they manufacture motherboards, Monitors , Video Cards etc.

I can't reccomend any brands since what I do is totally different than what you need them for. But if you want to get an idea of what laptop may be better and is a good price you can compare the cpu they use by going to http://cpuboss.com
And if you like the MAC OS you don't need to buy a apple made laptop you can get any laptop with an intel cpu and install the MAC OS on it.

I usually prefer a windows PC but I bought a macbook air because I needed something thin and light. I've used Samsung laptops and it doesn't compare to the keyboard and trackpad on this thing, it's very snappy and never lags behind. Plus you can always bootcamp it if you need Windows.

But it will save alot of money, compared to getting an Apple product. They are so freaking outdated in their products processing abilities. If you go to the mac store online the most powerful gpu you can order from them is the Radeon HD 5870 which is nearly 4 years old.
Its estimated that apple has $156 billion in cash available, they could easily buy AMD out right(amd is only worth $2.2 billion). And they could invest money into it to increase AMD's research capacity to not only develop better GPU's and CPU's at a faster rate but to make it more compatible with apple tech. So they could make more powerful macs and ios devices to give customers a deal, instead of using outdated technology and masking it with fancy designs.
