If you do go the Apple route you can always use virtualization or Bootcamp. I just got a MB Air and use Parallels for Scrapebox, and also have the Hackintosh desktop for heavy lifting if need be.

The main things are:
Fast processor
Large RAM
Preferably a SSD
Good high quality, solid build
A HD screen
Why have I never seen this before?! Anyone have opinions on the Razer blade?

Yes it's aimed at gamers which is good, because that means it will be able to render videos quickly which I need. I've never done PC gaming but they do look to be a reputable company so we may have just found our winner.

Get a laptop with the latest i7 4th Gen CPU and a decent graphics processor. Don't worry about ram much, its better (and cheaper) to upgrade ram then to buy a laptop with a lot of it. Just check the specs and make sure the motherboard is compatible with any upgrades or add-ons.
Get a MacBook, I've owned many PC laptops over the years and yeah the hardware in a $1000 dollar mac won't be as fast as the hardware in a $1000 PC but the build quality will be so much higher. Yeah you can get that i7 PC laptop but the case will most likely be made of cheap plastic that creaks and cracks when you carry it or open the display, and it will most likely be at least an inch thick and weigh a ton. All depends on your priorities and whats more important to you, I've had a macbook pro and a macbook air now and wouldn't go back to a PC based laptop for anything.

If you are investing for a long term laptop you should stay away from "Wal-Mart" brands such as HP, Dell, Compaq, Acer, Toshiba... I bought 3 laptops 1 Dell, 1 customized HP from HP.com and I got rid off both in less than 2 years, I use my laptop 15 hours per day so... right now I got an HP for $400 at bestbuy and it was fine but it's getting hot (I bought a coolerpad though).
I would go for high end brands as Sony Vaio, Samsung, Lenovo or Alienware.

With 700 pounds you should have no problems finding a laptop that suits your needs.
Just go for a laptop with;
- A good brand
- At least 4GB RAM
- At least 2.4 processor speed.
You don't need to pay more than 600 pounds for a kind of laptop that you require.

I use my Macbook Air for everything (Use parallels to run windows crap).
And for tools I use a HP i3 Laptop and for the more CPU demanding apps I have a Quad core AMD custom PC which I built with 2x 128gb SSD's and a Backup 1TB HDD in there along with 16GB gaming memory
