I doubt it. I mean, unless you were writing a book on medical advice and claiming to be a doctor, then you may be getting close to trouble. But all pen names are partial lies at least. One of my most successful pen names is a 40 year old mother of 2 who writes erotica at night after her kids go to bed. That couldn't be further from who I actually am, but that's the beauty of pen names.

Just don't make outrageous claims (medical advice, legal advice, etc) and you should be fine.

Well I'm #3 now on Free Kindle Ebooks with many downloads every second. It's the second free day. Should I stop the free promotion because my book seems to be quite successful?

And does anyone know sites for non-English books to which I can submit my book?

Congrats Cazzina! Please keep posting your results here, I'd like to see how you do. I am finishing up a few erotica stories to submit as well. Funny thing is, there are so many authors on erotica sites like literotica that apparently have no idea that they can sell their works instead of just give them away for free. Could be a good JV idea, I suppose...

well, I have noticed that people are obsessed with the "free" thing all though out the online marketing world. On kindle, free seems to work best for the series or trilogy writers. They give away the first book free and naturally, readers want to know what happens in the subsequent books. The first free book is only a hook.

I have not found anyway to gage how many books are selling after an author has published it. Maybe you can average the rank for a week and get a ball park idea.

I read your thread and I really appreciate your help. I even started a journey thread based on it, but I haven't been updating it because I was not well; now I'm fine, and I'd like to get things going. Can you clear some of my doubts?

1. You said you wouldn't sell a 5000 word book for $2.99. So, how long does the book have to be, a non-fiction book I mean, to be sold at $2.99? I mean, the minimum word count.

2. Also, how do you select your niches? Can you give some pointers on that? Where do you look to get ideas for profitable niches with low competition?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Like 9h ago I stopped offering my book for free, after the 2nd day of being free and after being #3 in the Free Kindle books category.
Still wondering if that was a good decision or not, because after almost 3,000 downloads I still haven't gotten a single review.

So far I haven't made one sale, although I had two sales on the first day I published my book (even before I gave it out for free).

I can add you to the Kindle Skype group. I big thing we will be doing in this group is review exchanges. Meaning if you review one of my works, I will review your book. Reviews are a huge boost in promotion.

Can you review my book even though I'm publishing in the non-English speaking market? I heard that only people can write reviews who live in the actual country of the language. Maybe that's wrong.

I have two erotica titles, with a third under review, that I've put up in the last week since reading this thread. I've done no free days yet, though I plan to start cycling through when i get to five titles (hopefully early next week). They've sold seven total copies in the first seven days, with no promo and no reviews. I'd also be curious if anyone could share any sites where adult promos are allowed for ebooks.

Yes, you can upload a new Word file. Yes, it will reset your rankings and everything.

Something strange has happened with me. The last 3 books I have uploaded are virtually getting no free downloads once they go on promotion. They get maybe 1-2 per day....FREE downloads. My previous titles have had no problems getting downloads, and I usually end up with about 100 per day. My new titles are even in some of the same categories as my previous ones. What's going on here?

That's pretty short, unless you're selling it for $0.99.

For something 5k and under, I only charge $2.99 if it's erotica. That stuff sells no matter the price point.

I uploaded a new book yesterday and it has been live for almost 24h now but I cannot even find it in the Kindle store.. not with the title, author name or number. What might be the problem?

Sometimes the Amazon store will have very sporadic updates. One time it will take an hour before a new book is live, the next time it'll take 24 hours. Who knows why, but just be patient and it should resolve itself.

Currently I'm writing for the German speaking market, have two books up and live now.
As mentioned, my first book was even #3 in the free Kindle book list, but still I don't get a lot of sales.
My book is priced at 2.99?, I've been thinking of lowering it to 0.99? to get more sales and to get ranked better and then price it higher again but I don't know. My other book didn't get any sales so far.
Maybe I'm doing it wrong or the German speaking market is not as profitable (yet) as the English speaking one.
