Google Social Media Slap - Anyone Feeling It's Effects?

Hey I was just wondering if anyone has felt any negative effects from Google's slap of social media.

I personally haven't had any major problems yet(knock on wood).
Just the usual "dancing" of some of my sites in Google.

Anyone care to share, feel free.

Yes I have. Google doesn't seem to give as much love to any web 2.0 properties as it use. In the past you could just put up a squidoo, hubpages, and wetpaint page, and expect all three to dominate the first page. Now there appearing on like the 4th and 5th page. You probably need to get more solid backlinks from other sources now for these properties to rank high. What do you guys think about this?

It's always a good idea to diversify your SEO efforts in case something like this happens. That way, when the bottom falls out of one thing, you still have others working for you.

Articles, YouTube Vidz, Press Releases, Viral Reports, Directory Submission, etc., etc.

Old school baby - always hit traditional white for longevity n then hit bh for yur short term stuff

In addition if you're mixing it up make sure you're hittin both consistently - takes effin ages for them barstools to credit ur links!

I'm not trying to start a fight or anything. It's just that if someone is gonna take a shot at my image when there's absolutely no grounds for it, that's just lame and I will have something to say about it.

If I did something wrong, attack away for all I care. If I didn't, sorry but you have now right to make accusations that make no sense.

I try to be a contributing member here, and that's why I started this thread; to identify problems that other members are experiencing and then try to help them solve it.

Don't let "absolutfl" get to you. I can see from his join date that he just signed on as a member today. Not a very good start, I must say. He obviously has a lot to learn . . . and starting with negative, uninformed posts like his, it is doubtful that he will last. He will get chewed up and spit out in no time.

So far, I have not been affected too much other than what I stated in the beginning.

Here are some things I do that help:

1. Have a plan. Plan out each and every promotion before you actually start it. If you just think "this product looks like it will sell. I'm gonna promote it." and then throw up a few landing pages, ping em, get a few bookmarks, then drop it, you won't get too far. I plan out what sites I will use and my linking strategy before I start. This way I know what needs to be done when. Also, decide before-hand if your promotion is going to be for a short term or long term site.

2. Get a variety of links. Don't just focus on bookmarking like Digg etc. Articles, Video, Press Releases, Forums...there are tons of ways to generate backlinks. Just don't spam.

3. Update/promote on a regular basis. This is kind of connected to #1. Make sure you set days where you are going to update your content and do it. Then ping your sites after each update.

4. Don't forget to aggregate, submit, and ping all your RSS feeds!

If I find anything else that seems to work, I will be sure to let others know. I believe consistency and variation are key in this type of marketing.
