Google Social Media Slap - Anyone Feeling It's Effects?

I imagine you will see sites that carry Google analytics rise in searches based on bouce rates/returns. Since Google will at that point will know every tiny thing about your site, your visitors etc. I would focus on great content for your site. I hear updating regularly helps. Supposedly they are focusing more on updated sites because the presumption that iy something new for surfers to see. I will bet you a year from now most of the sites on top are ones that have tons of content and where visitors come and stay and stay and return.

You missunderstood me, I mean the girl who speaks about that is linkbaiting

GOSH...

If that's what you meant, then I apologize for the misunderstanding.

But to let you know, the way you said it sounded like it was directed at me and this thread. I saw nothing about the girl mentioned.

But again, I apologize for the misunderstanding.

no harm no foul.:D

Web 2.0 still rocks .

however the old ones do not give as much love as they use to . You have to find new properties. Vidller is getting a lot of G love lately.

Also squidoo still ranks well if done correctly it is no longer just sticking content on them and you are instant gold . You have to treat them like a real website . SEO links etc.etc.etc.

There is soo many tricks and tips .

I currently own a medium sized 2.0 website I am running experiements on it now. Medium = about 20 million pages of content .

And she promoted by using????? Ohh yeah web 2.0 properties. Youtube social media . Etcetc.etc. Wow what a concept sell someone on a social media slap promoting on social media sites.

Uhh ok i am done on this one.

I googled that term and wanted to slap myself maybe that is what she was trying to tell people.

If you are largely owning the serps using web 2.0 and social media how in the world are you going to convince people that there is a so called social media slap?

Alot of HIGHLY competitve terms are still having squidoo right there at the front page. guys this is more GURU bullshit. Trying to sell you something else you do not need. this lady is making money doing the very thing she is preaching will get you google slapped. Unless I am looking at the wrong website.

This is kinda what I figured. The slap isn't really much of a slap but rather just Google doing one of it's regular updates.

I think this is the only reason why some sites got de-indexed, lost PR, danced in the SERPs , etc.

This always happens whenever Google does one of its updates. That's why it pays to have a strong linking strategy before you start any site so that when Google updates, you will have less chance of being affected.

I have noticed zero effect with this Social Media slap, if indeed there actually is one. However Google has been turning the dials a bit lately with regards to brands. Aaron done a good post with evidence here:

Code:
http://www.seobook.com/google-branding

Cutt's did confirm a tweak went on but down played it. I'm doing some testing on things at the moment, such as domain mentions (non hyperlink) effecting rankings amongst others. I was seeing some odd results today, for instance a domain shot to the front page for "SEO" from nowhere and it wasn't about SEO and didn't have the term in the page copy and several hours later vanished.

That SERP rarely changes, for instance me and Rand have been glued 1 spot apart for months and there's rarely a newcomer in the top #20. The past 2 weeks, several have come and gone in a day never to return and often brand new pages. (Making a new page, then ranking front page for SEO in a few hours is unheard of).

It's difficult to pinpoint, but it doesn't seem targeted at Social Media sites in particular rather a cause and effect from a general scoring adjustment.

Anyone do software (PAD) and video submissions?

Video is definitely getting lots of love from Google.

PAD also seems like something to generate a lot of backlinks, but it's more of a viral thing I think. Not too sure; haven't really played with PADs too much yet.

There we go, Aarons /google-branding URL i quoted above is now in the top #20 for "SEO" a few spots away from me. Also 1 spot below me is SearchEngineLand's article written about 24 hours ago.

Exactly what i mentioned yesterday, Google is tossing new content up in to the #10's and #20's for some ultra-competitive terms. There is a set of about 20 such big keywords i monitor daily in vastly different niches, i have tracked them for a few years because i rank for them and they always give a good indication.

I have figured out about 90% of this algo adjustment, and no it's not Social Media directed it's something much different. So if you are leveraging Social Media properties, most people won't notice anything.

My thoughts...

1. I think the big social media slap is a bit of bulls*&t, yeah things have been affected but there are plenty of web 2.0 sites popping up each and every day that are getting lots of love from google that none of us have heard of.

2. Social bookmarking isn't as effective as it once was but just means that your going to need more of them to make a difference.

3. Diversification is always king. Stick to this rule and stick you fingers in as many cakes as you can.

4. Mix your link building up. Your links should never all just be from social media.

New social media sites pop up everyday. So instead of relying solely on the big ones like Squidoo, keep finding new ones and using them, of course without dumping the big ones.

"Social media slap" is just a term coined by this gal (or is it someone else?) to instill fear into our hearts so that we will beg them to sell us their products. And it's only psychological that humans respond to fear when it is stimulated without thinking if that fear is justified.

Learn from her method without falling for it and use it in your marketing.

Yukinari, l am interested in your question did you suffer from the google slap for social media, google cannot have an effect on your actual social media campagins ........google own youtube..right did you really think that after paying a lot of money for youtube that they are going to slap itelf in the face......no not really....what they may do is to introduce a few alterations to its {algorythem could never spell that ] to cope with the increase of media submissions.

You can still do a video and put it up on youtube and indexed on googles first page within a couple of hours........the problem is that people have discovered it and more are doing so now google is looking at the linking and see's its just a one page landing page etc so it will fall from the pages unless supported with more incoming quality links and content....all they are doing is to try to ensure a richer search engine experience for their customers.

But they have no control over the rest of your social media which should be social link to social link web 2 properties which have far more traffic than google could dream of amd more importantly is targeted and free......

is this 20 million pages of content looked at favorably by the engin3s?
flat or dynamic?

I was struggling with a sites with good content and backlinks as I didn't see results i was spamming web 2.0 and social bookmarking them with less results.
This time i was trying to protect my main pages with buffers and I was starting to think that this method didn't pass enough link juice. I'll write more content for them...

Just finished watching a new live video of Howie tonight on ustream. He says that there is no Social Media Slap from Google, because Google loves new content that comes from these authority Web 2.0 sites such as Squidoo, etc. Plus, Google owns Blogger and Youtube.

He DID however say that Adwords is going be more difficult, which is OK by me, since I never use Adwords anyway.

Also, he said to start promoting your stuff on Google Blogsearch. It is going to get lots of "Google Love".

So hooray for that . . . No Social Media Slap . . . Love it! :)

Cheers! - "Wiz"

Yes my sentiments exactly. Coarse I knew that the whole Google slaps social media was just crap. Basically it was created by some self proclaimed GURU to get you to buy there stuff. Plain and simple more CRAP that you do not need to buy into.

So verdict is NO SOCIAL MEDIA SLAP.

BTW new properties that get google love can be found each and everyday!
