Maybe the quickest way to get it going is to use Facebook Ads to get the first 2-3000 fans. If you set your budget accordingly, it might cost $20-$30. Then let it go viral from there.

You could, sure. But if you give away prizes at each 50K milestone, you can afford to be white hat. Not that I'm judging (hell, we're on BHW! LOL). I'm a white hatter so what appeals to me most about this method (and I wish I could take credit for it) is the WH aspect.

What Alpha suggested is a little more than just black hat, be careful if you head down that road.

You're welcome, dude. Yes, totally agree. I'd never judge others for the hat they wear, but I just prefer white hat methods. I'm sat here researching now and I think this is one of those approaches that doesn't really need any BH. 50K likes should generate enough revenue to cover whatever you need to entice the next 50K, and so on.

Cool. But again, you're confusing BH with something else. Black Hat is from Google(Bing|Yahoo|Whoever)'s perspective not from the legal point of view. Hope you see where I'm trying to get. Not giving out a prize you announced is not Black Hat, it's something else.

I beg to differ... There is no chance in hell you will ever get into trouble with this method (online... offline is a completely different matter). It's been used for ages, even by big companies and has never led to legal problems! Why? simple... lack of proof! Obviously you shouldn't let the newest fake acc with 5 pics win... Get your cousin/uncle to win! or something like that...

Very cool share - thanks. Just looking at the plugin now on another screen. Sexy! (I don't condone getting it for free, but 25 bucks for a killer piece of a kit like that is peanuts when you consider your eventual passive income.) I don't want to post a page example in case it belongs to anyone here. Not sure why that could be a bad thing (extra competition? exposing method? who knows?). But I best not. What I will do, though, is give a working example.

You have a clothing affiliate (think it's an affiliate; too busy to investigate) with 115K likes. They seem to give away an item of clothing each 50K likes. To be in the competition you have to do the following:

1. Like pic
2. Share pic.
3. Comment if you like pic.
4. Like fan page.

Random person who does the above is chosen at the 150K mark and they'll have random giveaways in the meantime.

Idea:

Setup an amazon ecommerce site. Choose a niche of clothing (I love niches). You can send amazon gift vouchers that cover the $ amount for the item of clothing via email. This saves on postage and having a person give you their address (which they may not want to do). Lack of address requirement should also boost LIKES.

It wouldn't be a legal problem hosting a fake contest, since you can always provide a fake winner. But you could get in trouble with Facebook if you get reported by someone who knows what they're doing. According to FB Rules it's not permitted to host contests where people have to hit Like, Comment or Share. Hope this contributed something.
