I'm almost reluctant to mention this method. I don't do FB marketing and I could be stating something so blatantly obvious that you're all doing it. I came across it today, though, and I figure it may be useful. If it isn't feel free to throw tomatoes (although I prefer bananas).

Method in a nutshell (it must be a nutshell and not a typical seashell): You'll be encouraging growth by holding competitions and giving away prizes. In order to be in with a chance to win a prize, FB users have to do a few things. These few things help to grow your page.

    1. What you're going to give away.

I've seen today people offering TVs. Lots of alternatives exist: whatever you have lying around, unused, unwanted; whatever you can afford to buy (given how many likes you could get in putting it up); digital products you can make (websites). The trick is to check out other pages and see what items it is that people want most. A 300 buck (or thereabouts) TV is what I saw today.

    2. Terms of Competition.

Pin the information up top on your page. You can give something away each month or you can set it to the amount of likes: everything 50K, for example. Write down the steps of how they can take part. This last part is important; it's how you grow you your page. The example I saw today is like this: like our competition (they post about it each day, so you just choose one to like); share it on your page; and, of course, like our page. Whenever the competition deadline is up, you then go through your shares, and choose a winner at random.

    3. Growth.

Pretty obvious. The requirement to share your competition posts thrusts your advertising message in front of the eyeballs of their friends. Friends wanting to win your "whatever" visit and like your page.

It seems to me a legitimate method of growing fan pages. It would work really well if you have items that you can get for free or at very little cost, but items that others will value. It must be working for others. The page I saw today had 200K likes.

    Remember . . . I prefer bananas!

    Hugs and Kisses,

    Dr Acula

Ye it's being done on fb maybe not as you explained or maybe it is.

But if you look around and find a value people would go for it, hell even if there's no value some pages are pretty successful with it as it goes very viral and as you mentioned use it to build your pages.

Now start reading between the lines! :)

    I escaped a banana!!

Thanks for the tip too. Yes, I think it's worth exploring. (For an FB newbie like me, certainly). I'm in the middle of other stuff right now, but I'd like to go exploring later and see what variations already exist out there.

I don't want to post a page example in case it belongs to anyone here. Not sure why that could be a bad thing (extra competition? exposing method? who knows?). But I best not. What I will do, though, is give a working example.

You have a clothing affiliate (think it's an affiliate; too busy to investigate) with 115K likes. They seem to give away an item of clothing each 50K likes. To be in the competition you have to do the following:

    1. Like pic
    2. Share pic.
    3. Comment if you like pic.
    4. Like fan page.

Random person who does the above is chosen at the 150K mark and they'll have random giveaways in the meantime.

    Idea:

Setup an amazon ecommerce site. Choose a niche of clothing (I love niches). You can send amazon gift vouchers that cover the $ amount for the item of clothing via email. This saves on postage and having a person give you their address (which they may not want to do). Lack of address requirement should also boost LIKES.

Offer one of amazon products as a prize with your aff link and with big enough page somebody might just go and buy it through your link, can even go with getting your status update on other pages.

Or as for the prize idea, why not go for that high ticket thing, the mystery prize, something that is rare and hard to find or not available to someone.

Great ideas! The mystery prize idea could work especially well as you grow. You can list the contents of the prize given away in the past and say each month (or each 50K) the mystery prize gets bigger. Then you can be teasing them each day and getting them talking. "150K mystery price is litterally going to blow your mind, folks." Etc.

    The method's getting better!

    Very nice.
As mentioned, the first thing i thought when reading the OP was: I hate shipping stuff to people, why not just award a digital coupon so they can order something on their own?
Less work and you don't have the risk that your goods gets damaged.

How fast would a fanpage grow if you use this method?

I agree dude. I mentioned up above amazon vouchers but really anything will do. You can give them a choice!

Obviously you never give away a freebie tho.. just let one of your fake accounts "win" and post some lovely "omg, I won" etc posts...

You could, sure. But if you give away prizes at each 50K milestone, you can afford to be white hat. Not that I'm judging (hell, we're on BHW! LOL). I'm a white hatter so what appeals to me most about this method (and I wish I could take credit for it) is the WH aspect.

What is the money making part. Are you building an Email list? Having an affiliate link on your fan page where you make affiliate commissions? Sending people to your blog/money site? Sorry, I'm a noob when it comes to Facebook. Just starting with Facebook marketing.

There are many ways of doing it from what I've seen (note that I've yet to try this myself).

    1. A "description link" to website: review or eCommerce.
    2. "Post links" to the above two types of site.
    3. List collecting on your website page (although I haven't seen this yet).
    4. Adsense on your website.

    Hope that helps somewhat!

Sure, it helps. Just have to take action on it. I'll search Facebook and find how others are doing it so that I can get some ideas.

A method like this seems to be an easy rinse and repeat method. Each contest will be like your own personal atm machine.

But in order to successfully start this method, you probably have to have lots of fans to initially get your message out there. I'm assuming. I just started with Facebook. Created my first Fanpage the other day. I have a whopping 8 Likes so far. Lol. Probably not enough to get this method started.

At least you took action! So, nice going!

You're right. Seems logical for us to assume this really needs a few thousand likes before taking off. What I can say, though, without giving out the fan page here, is one page using this method grew by 9K likes in around 24 hours. Went from 115 to 124. I think the trick, unless you're a real FB pro with software, contacts, and tons of pages and accounts, is to decide on a niche and build your profile the legit way. Once you get a few hundred friends to your page, the competition system should help you get to a thousand or more fairly soon, then you're on your way. This is what I intend to do, anyway. I wish you luck!

I used that EXACT same method :D and it works like goddamn magic, only I used it in a different niche than clothing... something with a higher demand.. I will leave it at that ;)

This is encouraging. Thanks for posting! I really had no idea if it was a worthwhile method or not; it was just something I kept seeing in the periphery as I wandered around FB. Nice to know it actually works!

The tough part is getting your initial 1-2K geniune fans... after that it gets easier since the higher number tends to attract more fans.. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to hit me up mate! Cheers!
