Yea, I have one collection of horror shorts that I put up about 2 weeks ago, to test the genre. I haven't marketed at all, didn't even throw it up on my FB or Twitter, and it gets a couple of sales a day. Not gonna make me a millionaire, but I invested $0 in it, so it's all profit.

GobBluthJD - seriously, thank you for this brilliant idea. :) I will get into this business once I get some free time. Obviously, writing isn't a problem. All I need now is to find a great niche and keep writing!

I have a question regarding copyright and stuff..

Let's say i wanna release a book about how to be superpretty like the celebrities (that's not quite my plan yet, but an example, haha)..

- Can I mention celebrity names?

- Can I do my research on Google and use information from different websites? (For example Megan Fox has these beauty secrets bla bla)
 
How do books rank higher?
If I promote them on Social Media networks..

Lets say I write a book about dieting.
I put it free for the 5 days, I make sure to get plenty of reviews.
Then once it is selling at 2.99$, I make sure it gets a fast few hundred buys at least from fans on FB Pages and more. Will this make it rank high?
How can you get into the top pages of amazon to sell fast?
Will backlinking help? Reviews on other sites?

Tips?
 
If you are going to write a book in the first place, you should know these things already and be asking other questions...
 
Epic fail, you should read the whole thread. If the guy took the time to find all those answers then he wouldn't be taking action. It's better to start taking action and learn from your mistakes rather than waste the time pondering questions.
 
I've used Kindle and use to make around $300 a month... I stopped using it of course because I'm currently taking nursing classes for my BSN. Anyways guys, here are some tips.

Make sure to enroll your books in KDP Select, you get FREE 5 days of promotion which in the end can help increase your sales overall as it helps raise your ebooks rank.

There is a niche for public domain, but I really won't go into that right now.

Make sure to upload quality content, and not a bunch of ebooks that aren't worth anything.

Also, I've heard that some people's ebooks will get pirated then the author has to prove they own the copyrights to their own books! This is what worries me the most because people who can write well will have their work stolen and might even lose their account from pirates. The reason for this is Amazon gets really upset if your ebook is on the internet for free and they are selling it on their website. They will send you can email asking to prove copyrights. Just a heads up... make sure to ALWAYS respond to Amazon's email. That's how I lost my account, but I just got it back this week after a year of fighting.

I'm happy to be back with Amazon, but I will defiantly tread lightly this time. :)

Wow, a book ever few days? thats awesome - teach me, wise one LOL...i'd LOVE to get some kindle books published, but i hold myself back :\
 
The biggest hurdle you're going to face going forward is that Amazon is now making a concerted effort to get rid of shill reviews. Lots of people are putting absolute rubbish up on the Kindle platform and paying people to post these reviews. Amazon's recent "Amazon confirmed purchase" label on real reviews is just their first line of defense.

This company has $$ out the wazoo, so don't think you're going to be able to outsmart them. They don't exist for your benefit, you exist for theirs.

That said, if you do have quality content to share, you can make serious money.

I don't know the OP, but I will say that if he's posting books as frequently as he says he is, I bet my editing staff could find about 500 typos each and/or Engrish throughout. Readers hate typos, and they aren't shy about giving 1 star reviews for them.

Not a dig at the OP, and I could be totally wrong. It's just that I know from experiance that it's hard to have heavy output without making mistakes, especially if you're outsourcing the writing to (I presume) Elance, Odesk or Freelancer.

Awesome thread man. I've spent the last 3 hours trying to figure out how to judge competition levels between the different categories but I can't figure it out.

OP, would you mind sharing how you determine the competition level versus the demand between categories/niches? I don't see any solid stats or sales numbers anywhere on the product pages to indicate one way or the other.

I have a lot to say and I could write hundreds of books. Going to do this.
I type 2,000 words in my journal each day.

This will be a cinch.
 
anyone published an erotic novel on kindle? if so, how many words did you write and how is the selling going?
i'm thinking of writing one around 10,000-20,000 words.

No, you couldn't, trust me. I have a very stringent editing method.
