SEO campaign, not working as planned

Hello to you all,
i've recently contacted a seo firm to run a local seo campaign.
But unfortunately all the keywords that gone up during the campagin went from first pages 1/2 to 8/9 page. The campaign was run on my main keywords in my niche (short term accommodations), competition is medium on the keyowrds.
With the penguin/panda update which was last, i can't remember i had a big increase in ranking.
As for the seo firm they say they do just white hat, i am kinda scarred of seeing my site penalized.
In google webmasters all is fine, keywords still bounce like crazy from day to day, same goes when checking with serpfox.
The domain authority just increased during the campaign, saw a steady increase in links.
My question is did it get scammed? or should i wait untill keywords remain on a steady position?

Are you saying that during the campaign they went up to 1/2 then down to 8/9, or were they at page 1/2 before the campaign started?

Don't ask in general terms what they did; ask for specifics. Any good quality company running a service should be able to tell you this.

Then check what they have done with various tools such as backlink checkers etc (I'm sure others will give more advice here).

I've had lower down keywords jump around a lot but those on 1/2 are reasonably static.

Also, it could perfectly be a bounce, you wont know until you do not go indepth with the website.

I advise to check what they did.

Two steps to do:

1. Go to ahrefs, enter your domain and analyze the first "Backlinks" graph. If you lost many backlinks it's bad.
2. Go to backlinkwatch, enter your domain and go through your links to check link quality.

I think its almost the same with all still not finding a proper place b'cause of jumps.After the penguin update my site went from page 1 to nowhere i thought my site was penalized but to my surprise i found my site on page 7 for the same keyword after 3-5days.Should wait a week or so to find the final result.

Well, the keywords just dropped the next day, when they've said the seo campaign is finished.
They were working since the end of March the campaign was ended on the 27 of May.

just wait and be patient, ask them some detailed report of their services so you check yourself what they provided ( every serious seo provider should give you a detailed report). check manually every backlink on any tool you have.
just wait a couple more days so things settle down and check your serp every now and then so you know if its a dance or you are estabilished at that certain serp.
also check your inside seo of your page, maybe you have some other keyword targeted by mistake and its not allowing your targeted keyword ranking priority.
and for the poeple who says your seo company F***ed you up: are u serious? instead of helping some fella, u try to scare him and blame his seo company without having any facts or at least checking what they did?
FFS if u dont have something helpull to say, please dont stess him.
ps. for OP, from the moment you decide to add backlinks yourself or via some company, it stops beeing white hat. white hat means good content and wait till someone finds you and links you......
