No Signature in BST Section Rule

Maybe because a member is paying from their own pockets for a BST thread and
would expect to keep it clean from others coming in and hijacking it.

Perfectly reasonable to expect this.

There are tons of paid ads on the main forum and that's a way for BHW to make money, and
I am not disagreeing with that.

I don't see how this is any different.
But when someone purchases a BHW BST thread, they should be able to "own" that thread
and not have tons of people hijacking it with their signatures. I'd hate if if I spent money on
a TV advertisement and during the advertisement there were 10 other interruptions of
competitors services. It's just not right..

Agreed. What about global ads?

At the same time, removing this sig feature in BST threads has a lot more weight/benefits
than not removing it. The donors have tons of other places to place their signatures.

The BST isn't the only one.

Yes, but donors did pay for that.... the BST thread space is tremendously more than the little banner in the signature.

Donors pay to have the right to use their signature.. how many Donors upgraded just to
post signatures in BST's? Removing the sig feature in the BST section will bring a TON of
benefits, which I am sure you agree with.

There are only a very limited number of "advantages" for keeping it. The only one
I can think of is the fact that they paid for Donor and therefore have a right to post a signature.

OP has a good idea, and the only reason why some of you flame on him is probably because you are the ones that are doing what he said.

WTF... Aren't you confident enough to let your BST compete with a signature?

And 'WTF'... Aren't those people confident enough with their BST's to stop spamming other BST's with their signatures?

I'm just playing devils advocate... like I said, ask the mods to disable global ads in the BST section as well. IMO it's a double standard if they don't.

However.... BHW does display ads on the site, regardless of what section. Often times those paid ads are in competition with the BST thread.
Why should a paid signature have less priority over a paid ad?

The existence of the forum, itself, and therefore its monetized global ad templating, precedes and supersedes the sale of smaller spaces within the forum, especially considering that it is the right to a thread being purchased by BST providers, not site-wide advertising. A paid ad appearing within the context of a paid-for BST thread is qualitatively different (to the point of mutual exclusivity) than the removal of competing signatures at the behest of the BST thread owner, therefore.

Further, those purchasing site-wide advertising of their wares cannot SPAM (Leith's concern), given that those ads are, IIRC, randomised CPM, thereby removing the possibility of Intention (Intent is part and parcel to spamming).

Donor status isn't free. I'm guessing there are more donors and Jr. VIP memberships than paid advertisers. Spamming someones thread shouldn't be allowed, I'm not arguing with that. But a passive ad in a signature isn't exactly spam, unless the person is clearly doing that. The obvious concern is that the ad is there, if it wasn't there and the comment was still garbage ie "nice offer" there wouldn't be an issue.

Why global ads are different than donor status was already made clear. The bottom line is that the space (i.e. the BST thread) passes certain ownership rights. Leith, as I gather, is seeking to expand those rights reasonably insofar as he, as a BST provider, would like more control over the spaces within his 'leased' space not already reserved for preceding and superseding global ad space. I mentioned TV ads competing with one another at the same time with only one party paying; Junkfood mentioned flyers on a shop: the potential number of analogues illustrating the salient contrast is certainly many.

Correct!

Let's keep the thread on track :)

I just don't see how you could be against signature ads in your BST thread, but okay with ads above, below, and the middle of your thread. Of course there is a difference in who pays for them, but certainly not a difference in who gets to say where they go. Perhaps you think you made that difference clear, but as I stated, I'd be willing to bet there is more donor money than ad money coming into this forum. The donors support the forum as well... ie... "donor" status. Money paid directly for ad placement and money paid to gain perks such as placing ads in ones signature should not be disparaged.

Good idea. I'm sick of this kind of posts just after a BST is live.

- "Good luck with your services..."
- "Nice service, bookmarking this..."
- "Great thread design..."
- etc

I dont know if that would be possible but here is my 0.02$

In short term BST will be same as in jrvip section so...
"SEO - Link building" thread:
disabled - all signatures to other link building BST threads (excluding BST creator signature) + disabled signature links to external websites.
enlabed - signatures to other sections of marketplace (e.g. proxies, content writing, domains etc.)
and so on... ;)

disabled links to external services = no affiliate links spamming in BST
I would like to see possibility of disabling ads in BST thread for XX$ monthly. BHW have to earn so we cant expect that ads will be disabled for 30$.

You have to want to understand the inherent differences between site-wide, global ad space and paid for signature space for any of what I'm typing to make sense. Not to be an ass, but re-read our conversation.

Anyway, mate, it's a forgone conclusion. I am merely telling you what a mod or the owner would have to tell you if they wanted to give you an in-depth and rather technical reason as to why sigs became disabled in BST threads. Which they are under no obligation to do.

There is no difference between global ad space and signature ad space for the purposes of advertising. You can disable the ads for certain areas in vbulletin. You just go under ad management and click on the threads to exclude, even though it's global. Obviously a person paying for a global banner isn't commenting on the BST thread, but it's still there, and it's on top of everything else.

It sounds to me like the BST owner doesn't care about the comment, but rather the competitors ad.

Agree to disagree. :)

Mate... were there no difference, they'd be called, and would accomplish, the same thing(s).

Yes, exactly. lol. He doesn't want it in his space.

What, why so complicated?

OP of BST should be the only one on his BST to have a signature. What is a reason anyone posting on the BST should have a signature, or why the OP shouldn't have their signature?

Why shouldn't the BST OP be able to advertise wherever he'd like?

To another issue: Global site advertisements are global site advertisements and have nothing to do with BST, even if clicking the ad directs to a BST thread. There absolutely is a difference between global ad-space and someone's signature due to the fact the user has some control over that little plot of online real estate but cannot dictate what ads he sees, unless he blocks them via javascript or a browser addon.
If you want your link to get out there more, especially if the signatures will be removed in BST, well it's time to pay-to-play and buy global ad space.

If you bought a signature, you have every right to have content in the signature, except in someone else's BST if this suggestion passes. I barely post on other BSTs, do you guys post on them a lot???

Allow me to freak you out people

I want to see something so that you could pay to be able to post a sales letter in someone else's sales thread.
How does that sound?

Thank you.

i am pretty sure that the ones that are going crazy about it are the ones that have spammed or plan to spam to get (or should i say steal) traffic from other peoples paid BST.

its pretty hypocritical saying "good luck with your sales" when its pretty damn obvious that they actually mean "i dont give a f@k about your sales i just want to post my godamn signature"

there are exceptions though.

Sure, buy the BST OP's signature space and you can have your link in his thread. Yay synergy.
