Ok, this isn't anything revolutionary but we saw a ridiculous response so I wanted to just spark some thoughts and ideas in your mind...
There is a local "celebrity" that is back in the limelight after a brief time away from the spot light to deal with a substance abuse problem. Well, they just released a new site to launch him back into the spotlight and they used a basic word press theme.
I though "this must be a mistake - they must be waiting for the site to be completed and have this up in the meantime"
...so I waited....a week...2 weeks...then I finally reached out (simply using the contact form on the site)
...I explained that I was local and wanted to offer a custom site design to them...got a response back immediately from the media rep saying they would love it. They were ready to pay also...but I said that it was on the house and all that I would ask for in return was a mention in a blog post and in a facebook and twitter post announcing the new site design. They were all over that like a fat kid on cake.
So, had one of our outsource companies do a great design...10 days later new site was up. Cost me $300 out of pocket but the response has been huge. So many requests for work in the local area from this one little thing.
This is the power of YOUR LOCAL "CELEBRITY" (let me explain...)
By "celebrity" I do not mean someone that is on tv or in films...this could be:
This is just a small example...you want to look for someone who is an influencial person and someone that people listen to. They need to obviously have a decent social following, but there are "local celebrities" in every market and in every location.
Think about it for a minute...and I bet you can think of potential "local celebrities" right now...
The potential customers are ALREADY SOLD...because you have already done work for someone that they admire, follow, and respect...the deal is already sold.
Again, this isn't reinventing the wheel...but it works well and I just figured that SOMEONE can read this and think "oh shit, I have the perfect person to do this for and leverage it into a ton of work!"
Good luck!
