What to do with a 100K active Email list?

Hello BHW'ers,

I have an active list of email addresses - approximately 100000 in number that I recently purchased from someone. I took 15 random email id's from that list and mailed them with a link created out of a url shortener (so that I can see stats of how many clicks occurred and from which country). 8 out of the 15 have clicked on it so far

I am looking out for ideas about what to do with this list so that I can make some money.

Do you also know of a good provider who will let me send mails to so many people at once?

I can't PM you probably not allowed as I am relatively new! Also I have no idea how many of these emails are genuine, how many will bounce when I mail them, so I do want to sell a product that has not been tested by me yet and then get yelled at by BHW members here. I mean I just picked 15 random emails and 8 of them clicked. May be I got lucky?

If anyone's still interested in sharing the risk, I am all ears! I paid 120 for this list.

LOL...you are either full of it or you purely got lucky with the first 15 emails. If in fact those are really 100,000 email address and are active unsaturated emails then it would have cost you 10's of thousands to obtain a list like that.

It's just highly unbelievable. It sounds more like your "Friend" scraped some emails, didn't check the accuracy of them, and then resold them to you. I could almost guarantee there is a few hundred spamcops in that list.

Yes I agree and I took that risk. Depending on the 8:15 ratio, I am assuming that even if 30% of that list is active, I could recover this amount and make some extra bucks too (probably for a couple of times) once I know what to do of that list.

Thanks but I don't need a barter here. In plain words, I just want to know what can I do with this list. I am searching this forum for some answers and if I find anything concrete I will share my 'newly acquired knowledge'!

OK I tried another experiment. I took 50 odd email id's and mailed them this time with some "commercial" text and a link that says "Amazon is offering 20% off on Electronic items". I have seen 17 clicks so far (it's been 9 hours only since I sent the mail).Guys, I don't know anything about this list, so I can't profile it into a category. Do you have any ideas what products always attracts an audience (who you do not know about). if anybody could tell me how I can monetize this subscription list in an effective way, that would be very helpful.I have tried the following:- Read clickbank books and what to sell blah blah..nothing concrete- Read Books on how to target email list..again nothing that clicks!- Searched this forum for similar threads

You can only spam them.
You can probably try email service providers but you can
probably get your account closed without any warning if it gets
lots of spam complaints.

Only way to mass mail would be to set up your own email server, or pay someone to
blast it.

Instead of blasting random offers to them from time to time, you can send offers to them(squeeze page)
in various niches.. this way you can have more targeted lists.

I am no email marketing guru, it's just my thought!

Either way, (try to) build a relationship with them. Maybe fish for some responses? Since you purchased the list, I feel like it's been spammed to hell already.
That'd be my first goal. Then sell?

The one thing every email owner on that list has in common is the fact that they own a computer and are, by nature, after more money.
Create a landing page selling an ebook on how to make money online. Upload your ebook to e-junkie or JVZoo or other and have the landing pages 'buy now' button linked to the checkout page of your e-junkie listing.
How to go about finding a method to send out inbox-landing emails to these recipients is to either buy a VPS and set up a script for it to act as an SMTP mass mailer, requiring a large amount of IP's which can potentially cost a lot; You can read this tutorial on how to do that: http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/making-money/488164-tutorial-how-set-up-your-own-linux-smtp-server-ip-rotation-rdns-spf-dkim.html

...or you can take the risk and rent a package from a site dedicated to leasing SMTP mass mailing services. This method is expensive and has the potential for a ban or refusal of work, but much faster.

I'm sure if you trawl around HF, BHW or WF long enough, you'll find someone who will be happy to let you piggy back off their pre-existing VPS-turned-SMTP for a small fee, though there's no guarantee of a 100% inboxed success rate.

Other than that, that's all you need. And just to let you know, purchased email lists are known for their poor quality in conversions. I wouldn't expect any conversion ratio to be anything more than 1:100 or a 1% conversion rate. Place your standards to fall below that and you'll be a happy or content boy.
