The only people that the forum needs to get rid of is spammers and that is what moderators do. I don't know why you have so much hate for these poor people who would rather read than write, but I really don't think they are harming the forum in anyway, on the contrary as many people have pointed out, they are actually helping generate revenue.

They are not diluting the quality of the forum.. however forcing them to post stuff when they don't want to.. yes, that will dilute the quality of the forum with lots of useless posts. Just give it a break bro.. you seem vexed that some people are exploiting your shares.. you share something because you want to, if you don't want to, then don't share. If you do share, don't expect anything back in return.

I just want to make sure that you guys know my thing is NOT against people who are wanting to learn and do better. It's about people who are simply not doing anything positive to help out. People can read all they want. Once you've read, you've learned. Once you've learned you start helping out. Until then, they can be limited.

I can see how I'm coming across a little passionate about my shares. The reason I mentioned it was simply because it shed light on all these people. 5 years and not even 10 posts? Come on brother, you can't tell me that's not a little ridiculous. And it wasn't just one or two, it was many of them. That's the only reason I'm bringing this up. Just want this place to maintain its sense of pride.

That is in no way relevant to the point I was making. The point I was making is the way you phrased the poll creates a bias and thus the results of your poll are useless.

You can't get a yes or no wrong. Biased or unbiased, it's still a yes or no. And each mean exactly what the yes or no defines.

Some people aren't as smart as you.

We don't work it exactly like that, but if we (the staff) see a trend of an individual
posting short comments like, "Cool, thanks", "Nice share", "Thanks bro!", etc.,
then we give them an infraction for attempting to increase their post count.
Then, if the trend continues, we may temp ban them or in some cases, perm
ban them.

I see, I was assuming that there was a technology that could be put in place where the post count would not rise if the post didn't meet a certain number of characters.

There sort of is.... posts don't count for lounge posts.

Look, there are mods, you will never have a perfect forum without human oversight.

You will never succeed in business with the attitude you have. What if google blocked people who don't click on their ads?

I'd suggest a place a "minimum character" count. Where your post won't count unless it is above a certain amount of characters.

I'm not complaining about people PMing me at all. I knew what I was going to face when I did it. I'm perfectly OK with it. What the password thing did was bring all the leechers into the light.

Thanks for explaining the password thing.

I still think you should focus on other things. There will always be leaches no matter what you do.
If you really want to play this hard, we are both leaching too till we turn blue... It's all depending on who you ask to determine the answer. :P

Perhaps an incentive would work better to achieve your goal. Jr Vip after you do something that qualifies for it or something like that springs to mind. Or another tag one could achieve. I think that is why the rep system is in place tho.

They are already limiting themselves by not taking part in discussions. They do not get answers to their own problems. They aren't making friends, they aren't a part of this great community because they are like ghosts... so the "punishment" is already enforced on them by default. Why add to their miseries? lol

Let them join the stream whenever they wish to... until then, we can give you all the company you need on the forums. Simply leave them to decide the "when", and when they feel it's the right time, they will join the stream... Believe me that no one actually does anything (right or wrong) until the time is absolutely right!!! Hahahaha :)

I don't like this idea. I'm an old member and almost never post, but I love lurking and I never leech anything.

Certain number of minimum characters also don't mean that they are any valuable to the community, right? ;)

Nothing is perfect, but unless we strive to get there, we will always just remain stagnant.

And this is the quote I go by in regards to stagnation:

There is no such thing as being stagnant. Life, at any point, is in a constant state of either growth or entropy.

Here's a tip for the OP, build yourself up to mod, exec vip or ideally, admin status and then worry about "leeches".
And besides, your argument is inconsistent. Someone who is leeching (it seems only off of you since you're the one with the issue) isn't the same as someone who is not very active.
I'ts a fucking internet forum, not your home.

Here comes my question Wiz. How do I know if I have received an infraction? Is it something that only the mods can see? Or do I receive some kind of message or something? Sorry, I don't have that much of experience with controlling IPB forums. So kinda n00bish question really..

@OP
Sorry Sn0rt buddy, I can't agree with that idea. Inactivity should not be taken as a "crime". I can have so many problems in my life that can prevent me from coming online. I should be "reminded" about my inactivity and not "warned". BHW is mostly an open forum. So somebody can choose not to register at all. How do you ban them? Ban them by their IP? No I don't think that's a good idea :P

I think the mods do an excellent job of getting rid of the people who spam and are annoying, other than that, I think it is fine, everyone needs to learn. Also, some of the people not posting 50 posts in a year may just be earning 50X more than you because they are busy working and not looking at the lounge XD.

I myself don't post that much as well. There are times that I don't really have time to come here and join the discussion. Sometimes it takes months before I become active again and if we're going to implement that, then I guess I will lose my precious BHW account fast.

The present state on BHW is already making sure that everything is being kept in order! Everyone who is someone here, is making it sure that the positive growth isn't slowing down. New ideas are welcome to all those unless those ideas are a bit selfish. Working in a community means taking care of all members: active, semi-active, and the inactive ones. Only the army has rules for all and those must be obeyed, a community is like a garden where some trees and plants bear fruits and flowers, some don't, some attract butterflies, some don't, some look great, some don't, some are in between somewhere...

Is there a need to keep only the beauty inside the garden and throw out the "useless" life-forms because they are not playing the role we have set for "our" garden? We have certain roles and rules, but those do not include throwing out the inactive members...

Leechers are gonna leech no matter what plus it will just create more useless posts if there is a number of posts they need to make per year. This would be a stupid thing to do.

Here comes my question Wiz. How do I know if I have received an infraction? Is it something that only the mods can see?

Hello g0g0l:

One of the new features that has been added is that when an infraction is issued,
it is automatically accompanied by a PM to the individual and it states the reason
for the infraction.

Hi Wiz
That is better :) Thanks for the quick response!!

Respectfully,

People that speak up should not only be people of higher authority. If that were the case, the world would be all but a bunch of nobodies. Someones lesser authority should not stop them, in anyway, from speaking up and bringing peoples attention to something. That is how leaders, entrepreneurs, and successors are created.

The argument is as such, there are people that have had accounts for several years and have acquired a total post count of 10. If they are still logging in, failing to contribute anything positive to the community, and are hanging around the downloads section, the means they are just leeching. It speaks for itself.

I changed the idea from a ban to a limited account instead. Figured this would alleviate much of all the concerns. Even the ad concerns.

Although you are right in that this is an internet forum, but not in that it is NOT a home to me and many many other respected members.

Cheers
