Problem: Leeches

Solution: Get rid of them

What's going on guys?

A recent share of mine shed some light on a potential issue that is going on: The amount of leeches we have going around.

I've had numerous and numerous of members with aged accounts, in one way or another, interact with me today asking for a password to one of my shares. These members were people that have had these accounts for years, some even more than 5 years old, and had an average of only 10 posts.

Basically these are people who do nothing for the community but come here to reap the benefits of having a membership to this community but in no way help or contribute.

They come here just to enjoy our downloads and nothing more.

We need to have this community on a "One hand washes the other" basis, NOT "Hey, let me use you for all I can and give nothing in return."

With that said,
I want to suggest an "Account Inactivity Ban"

This can probably be automated.

Basically I believe there should be a criteria for members to be able to maintain active with their accounts.

There is NO reason why 5 year old accounts should have only 10 posts.

I'm not saying people need to live, eat, and breath BHW, but they should at least participate in the community.

I think maybe a fair criteria would be to set a post count minimum of 50 posts a year.

I'll set up a poll, but what we will have to consider is the quality of members who vote. NOT just the number, reason being is because obviously these leechers don't want to have a minimum post requirement.

This suggestion could be twisted in other ways as well. I just feel that we need a nice little sweep every once in a while to keep the bugs out.

Heh, maybe I'm just being a little protective of this place. I tend to do that when I care about things.

:You_Rock_ .. Salute for your ideas . Keep Up the Good Work Mate , BHW Needs Members like you !

I've been around for a while. I dont post or share that much unless i have to. You want to punish people like me because some people asked you for a password for something you SHARED?

Let's get this straight,

I shared it because of all the people who ARE a positive influence in the community. People who have helped me, drive me to help others and so the cycle goes on. It's why people contribute, because they want to give back to those who have helped them.

Your stats actually don't look so bad because you have a few thanks and rep points to go along with your posts. There may very well be other variations to my suggestion as well.

But as you said, "UNLESS you HAVE to".

Unless you NEED something.

There are 365 days in a given year, you can't manage to post 50 posts?

If you (generally speaking) are not a positive influence to this community, then YEP, you gotta go.

The idea has potential but there's something that's not right with it. I belong to other forums (non-blackhat/seo as I've already proven that BHW is the best place for that). On some of them, I love my accounts and have gained reputation amongst the other members. But ever since finding this forum, I rarely go there anymore. Still, I would hate to lose my account there.

I think the same goes for other BHW users. Some of them might not log in for some time but that doesn't mean they are leechers.

On the other hand, I agree with the suggestion for users who have been around for quite a while and their posts are like the ones I found yesterday.

1st post: I have brains
2nd post: you have brains
3rd post: all things work with brains

Obvious spammers that just want to troll or probably get their post count up. Now if they last a year and all their posts are like that, then I'm pretty sure the MODS would have removed their account.

I find this to be a very grey area. I find myself switching opinions with every paragraph I type. Oh well.

Im somehow in between regarding this matter snort. I also agree with you on that some of those inactive members are only here for the freebies but "Some" of those inactive members are successful ones. They might be too busy with their IM journeys or building new bots and they are too busy to post or read something and only comes once in a while if they have some spare time to read the latest trends in their field. It would be a tough job for the mods to categorize in which "inactivity" does an inactive member belong. :)

Erm, isn't it separated somewhat already with a blue section and above?

Some use a translator to understand what they read here, do you really want to force those people Babblefishing 50 posts to be stored in the DB forever? Tons of problems arise, including spam deletion by Mods.
Also, I wonder why you worry about it. You shared something and now get stalked for the password. Why not post the password somewhere and be done with it?

You have a point with the attitude tho.

I could easily say you're a leech for not giving over 97 dollars for donor, and not another 97 for Jr. VIP.

So what?

Look, most of those people won't succeed. The spirit of this forum lies in it's community of successful (or at least people with drive) members who help each other.

Yes, you have those people who leech.

If you want to get ahead, look up, not down.

edit - there is a pruning tool in vbulletin... mods could do it with a few mouse clicks.

P.S. - Some of those leeches buy things from members with BST threads. More traffic, good or bad, is better for everyone.

Hello sn0rt:

Your concern and good intentions are appreciated. However, there are so many
variables in regards to why a particular individual might be inactive on BHW. For
instance, someone may be ill for an extended period of time, or unfortunately, in
jail for an extended period of time, or, as stated above, someone may have
joined mainly to buy services.

It is difficult, if not impossible to know why an individual may not be active on BHW.

Cheers! - "Wiz"

As someone once pointed out, those 'leeches' also generate impressions for ads on the forum.. why don't you open a BST, and see how many of these leeches come and give you business.

Another problem would be this.. There is already a minimum post count to send PMs.. and we see a fair share of noobs going around posting "great idea" or "thanks for the share" or my favorite "I'm just posting here because I need 15 posts to PM people". Imagine what crap we will start seeing if you must post something or you will get banned..

Just because someone can participate, doesn't mean everyone should participate. More power to you sn0rt, but i disagree.
I buy services from here, i have my methods, but i have not reached the point to participate, so i STFU and learn.

I could easily say you're a leech for not giving over 97 dollars for donor, and not another 97 for Jr. VIP.

OFF-TOPIC:
Let me get this straight. To be Jr. VIP, you need to pay $97 to be a donor and another $97 to be Jr. VIP?
I asked because I finally got my first $100 using methods here and I'm thinking of getting Jr. VIP.

The idea has potential but there's something that's not right with it. I belong to other forums (non-blackhat/seo as I've already proven that BHW is the best place for that). There can be two views to the above:

  • Although you may love your accounts there, you are no longer an contributing member.

  • You have seniority and shouldn't just get kicked to the curb because you have contributed and should at least be able to maintain you account.

Let's look at the second view, maybe there can be an exception once you have reached a certain level of seniority.
  • Once you've acquired 3,000 posts, you no longer need to have the account active with 50 posts a year.

I think the same goes for other BHW users. Some of them might not log in for some time but that doesn't mean they are leechers.

On the other hand, I agree with the suggestion for users who have been around for quite a while and their posts are like the ones I found yesterday.

At the end of the day, it's still not a difficult task to acquire 50 posts in a single year. It's only 50 posts. That's .13 of a post per day.

OFF-TOPIC:

No . . . If you have been a member for at least 60 days and have a post count of at least
100 points, you can be a Jr. VIP by paying $97 per year and your avatar will show that you
are both a Jr. VIP and a Donor.

Some people want to start a Buy/Sell/Trade thread sooner than the 60 days/100 posts
requirement to be a Jr. VIP, so they go for the "Donor" account upgrade, then often
opt to buy a Jr. VIP upgrade at a later time.

Cheers! - "Wiz"

but sn0rt, the 50 posts per year may create useless posts. members could just feel compelled to post something...
the act will become useless, most likely would create a deficit in knowledge. i for one don't want to read someones post just because they feel they have to post it.
look at crappy Facebook and the useless posts people have there. (not saying you have to post to facebook, but the quality of the posts)

OP something you should know a lot of members here opened account just to buy seo services since BHW
the best place for that , banning them isn't fair for them or for services sellers .

That is understandable.

I can brainstorm a few ideas in regards to that. Ideas to which I'm not sure whether or not such technologies would exist.

  • Have an option to set up a "buyers" account.
  • If they fail to meet the criteria, than they can only have access to threads that don't involve downloads

The way you set up your poll is utterly ridiculous. Those answers are completely biased and meant to have people answer they way you want them too. I mean cmon "leaches need to eat too"

How about phrasing it like this:

Yes: Fuck everyone that doesn't contribute as much as I want them too

No: This is a community and everyone has the right to be here

See what I'm doing here?????????????????????????
