How much do you normally charge to create a video using AE ?

Hello,

I have to give quotation to a client for video walkthrough creation and now I am stuck at pricing.
I am really sorry if this is a repeat post.
How do you guys charge for a video created using videohive templates or otherwise?
I am guessing the charges should be based on the length of the video. Please suggest me if there are anymore parameters.
It would be really helpful if you could give me rates in Indian & US currencies.

That depends.. for instance I can customize a 1:30 minutes long business video for like 10-15 minutes but in some cases, depending on the used effects and the animation structire, this video could take from 45 minuites to 2 hours to render... (intel core i3-350m, 4GB ram) There are also the logo revealing videos: 10-20 seconds long - customization time is about 2-3 minutes max, render time: 3-15 minutes. So it is all about the "time is money" thing and how much time you can spend on the total working process Of course if I had Core i7-3770 + 32GB RAM, things would have been much different.

We have a dual-quad with 16GB of RAM, so we don't really need to charge for rendering time. We use AE 5.5, seems to work quite well. I honestly do not get a lot of AE work. I dunno, I guess a lot of people do not like templates per se.

Normally you wouldnt charge for rendering time, we don't when doing corporate videos.
If you are going to use templates check revostock too, and I'd suggest not using just one template, maybe mix a few together so it looks nothing like the templates you used.

Why not? Of course you wouldn't charge nearly as much since your not actively doing work, but what if you have to render out a project that takes 10+ hours? What if they keep having you change little things which is not uncommon after each render? Meaning you have to re-render multiple times. I have a 3.60ghz 8 core processor with 16gb of ram, but depending on how intensive the project it, rendering times can still get up there. It doesnt matter how fast your computer is, if you have a lot of things going on in a comp, render times can still take a while.

$30-100/hour depending on your skill level and client. I try to keep my hourly rate the same regardless of the client, but I also try to work on flat-fee structure more than hourly. Also, unless you have a separate render box(s) and the process of rendering is not stopping you from doing other work, then you should absolutely charge for rendering, especially when the client comes back for the many revisions that require re-rendering that is inevitable. Time is money one way or the other.

And I personally (take it for what it's worth, it's my main gig, freelance) disagree with the idea that I should charge less for render time, to do that means you need to invoice it separately and quite honestly in my experience a client has never questioned my hours on a project but if I started putting "Render Time" as a separate line item regardless of at what rate, I guarantee there would be repeated conversations to every new client about why they need to pay for the time. I have a 8-core mac pro with 32gb ram and have had effects-intensive videos that are only 60 seconds take 12-15 hours to render, that means my workstation is unavailable for that amount of time, which is costing me time, and in turn, money.

Moral of the story, as long as the creative work you provide is worth the cost you're charging, you won't have any issues. If a client is upset that they paid you $2500-5k for a 60 second video because it looks like a student fresh out of art school made it in his spare time or bought a $40 template and put their copy/logo on it, you will have problems, if you make sure their only reaction to your deliverables is "wow" then they rarely will have any issue paying you what you ask.

In my experience if you provide quality work, on time, you get repeat clients and rarely have trouble getting paid fairly.

There we go, finally someone who gets the deal. If you render on the rig you edit, then you need to charge because you cannot be using more work.

Agree with Everydayimhustlin it all comes down to what skill level your at. Its all about delivering quality work, especially in video content wheres its noticeable the production value on screen.

Charge $300-$500 for a 2-3 minute video, depending on the amount of effects you put in. If its 5-10minutes, $3000+

Anyone here have good experiences /recommendations with render farms for AE? I've used them in the past for 3dsmax, but never video.

We have a few semi-beefy workstations than get co-opted for the occasional video work, but mostly no one wants to give them up long enough to output anything complex. Outsourcing to a renderfarm might be worth it if there's no setup charges.

On fiverr, i use to charge $5 for intros, but i guess you could charge much more than that, lets say $25 for 10-30sec intro should be fair price. Im also thinking of doing videos and dvd for special ceremony's like wedding or events. Create an entire dvd with custom menu's + video edited. How much will you people charge for that?
