I'm sure this has been covered countless times on the forum, but I want to make sure I fully understand the basics of SEO.
Let's say my keyword is "how to cut your own hair" and my domain is www.how-to-cut-your-own-hair.com. I want to know if I'm approaching each of these correctly:
Article Writing: I want to write some quality (500+ word) posts on my site which contain my keyword 'how to cut your own hair'. I also want to write some unique, quality articles on other sites that contain my keyword 'how to cut your own hair' and a link to my site. Does it really matter what is being written in these articles? I mean, I get that it is supposed to be related to cutting your own hair, but as long as it is relevant, does quality matter, or do you just need to care about it being unique, and relevant. Also, if I understand correctly, you don't want to put your keyword or link too many times in one article. You want to make it more natural, correct?
Link building: I guess the same applies for link building. I can do so by going on related blogs and commenting with some small phrase like "I learned how to cut your own hair pretty easily at www.how-to-cut-your-own-hair.com". It obviously wouldn't be that obvious and spam like, but I just want to make sure I've got the general idea.
I know this sounds very simple and very basic, but, as helpful as this site is, sometimes it's hard to fully grasp the basics because a lot of posts seem to gloss over the basics and assumes everyone knows it. I've read a lot on the site, but the above techniques are just described as 'blog commenting', 'article submission', etc.. Not many posts go into exactly what needs to be done for blog commenting or article submission.
