Making $200K per year -- EASY BUSINESS PLAN

Anyone have a directory script. Lets say if i want to do a list directory of all restuarant in a country.

Great idea, especially for local niche sites. Any chance of an ebook on this topic and tactics? :)

Local niche sites are a huge market, and good point about using a directory script. Local directories could be huge as well.

How do you capture some of the top 10 spots on google? Any tips for a noob? =]
Thanks guys.

I pray to teh GOOG gods 3 times a day. ;)

There is plenty of info around about how to move in the rankings, so search for SEO (search engine optimization) and that will give you more info.

Google's recent news of expanding the local search results to 10 puts a real dent in this idea. Not that its still not worthwhile, just google making it tougher.

lol, Vladi, it's great that you have shared this tactic for the newbies. But I'm sure if any of us are 'real' marketers and not newbies, that this post isn't anything new. This is the same stuff from Andrew Cavanagh's "Offline Gold For Online Marketers". Take your pick (for the guy asking about an ebook):

I have never heard of this ebook nor seen it. What parallels are there between what I mentioned and what's in the ebook?

I'm not really interested in checking out the ebook. With the tactic I outlined, the revenue potential is just about unlimited -- you get out what you put in.

I wouldn't say it's for noobs either. It takes a good understanding of SEO to make this happens. And I would bet good money that the majority of people on this site that doesn't think they are a noob any more, doesn't make more than $200K per year in online marketing. It's just an educated guess based on what I have seen in this industry.

There are other ways of making great money too. I always thought that if I had 10 of me working together, I would amass an incredible company that would be a force to be reckoned with. As just one guy, I can only manage so many projects at the moment. My one flaw is that I try to micromanage too much. I need to let go and start hiring managers and deal with the fact that some of them are going to run off and start their own companies based on my ideas --- been there, done that. But do grow, one has to let loose of the reigns a bit.

BTW guys, if the local searches are becoming an issue for you, then change up the tactic. Don't use the city name. Find a low hit count niche (there are hundreds of these) and target those -- you can sell them just as easily to anybody in that niche across the world.

yes, but like he said you dont have to do restaurants theres thousands of possibilities, and hes right it's so easy to top serps for 2 word phrases and so easy for 3 word phrases...sometimes you can do it with just one decent backlink, depending on the competitiveness, but having say a dozen its almost guaranteed !

This is a pretty interesting concept considering most offline businesses have bugger all knowledge about computers, let alone buying advertising themselves via adwords ppc. Knowing the knowledge of the offline businesses near me, I'd should be laughing all the way to the bank. :)

I personally wouldn't be afraid of the google local listings..to me, that's the problem with directory listings in the first place. They kind of just all look the same in a block of words and numbers as you are so used to seeing.

At least the organic results have a descriptions that's already visible on the search page that you can add a spicy headline or two to attract the searcher's attention.

The local google results just have a name, site, and number. Very boring.

For me, I used a random city +dentist and got a block of 10 results and a map with those red pegs all bunched together showing where the dentists are located. Looks a bit cluttered and offers no real valuable information.

How do I know dentist from listing A or G or I is better? You can't tell. So hopefully that affects the searcher enough to just skip over that ugly, useless, block of listings and head right over to the more descriptive and formatted results.

Oh yeah, and I don't seem to see the google listings on 3 word phrases that include the city name and/or searches that do fall under vladi's recommended 40k and under for competition, without using "quotes".

Andrew Cavanaugh's book is a good one, however it's not like he thought of the idea first or anything. The book covers it from a total perspective of just selling your services b2b, gives you some basic pointers about selling, and you take it from there. He suggests walking in, chit chatting, networking, etc. - all the things I hate.

vladi demonstrates an actual focused strategy which is different as I recall he recommends direct mail.

Could you perhaps elaborate on what you do after the direct mail piece? Follow up by phone, have them call you, order at your website, support by email?

Do you send multiple mailings?

So far I was just assuming you sent a mailer, and waited for a phone call or email to order and then called them up and decided pricing from there :)

Very good post, I chanced upon this while searching the forums, boy am I glad I saw this.

hey this is a great post well thought out topics.
I actually have an awesome domain for my city -- its my city's commonly referred to .com

Its a catchphrase and everyone uses it. I have had it since 99 and posted random things on it since then.

If i make a comment about a restaurant in a blog post or a night at the clubs, sometimes i see in referrer stats that google is picking this up. I see a local restaurant or bar I was at, ranking #2 or 3 for their name, I often laugh to myself and wonder what the frik I should do with this domain.

This kinda gives me a few ideas, but I think my situation is about developing this domain somehow and selling ad spots to different companies:
ie: mydomain.com/pizza-restaurants / mydomain.com/second-hand-cars etc etc..

Population is 90k, not 100% sure if that is large enough to charge the #'s Vladi is talking about, and then again I think i need just a few more ideas which I hope this thread gives to get me on track with this potentially very lucrative domain name I have yet to develop (if anyone wants to help me with this, PM me I would definitely share the wealth with shared work, as I have a few things on my plate at the moment)

I'd really like to test this method out, however... I have a few questions for you:

When you rank, how do you manage to not be sandboxed by google for having a new domain and how do you maintain the top spot once you've achieved that task? I imagine you would have to add content every few days but what type of content would you add to a directory-like site?

Hi Vladi,

I just read your quote below.
Wanted to know if you are seriously interested in hiring managers to assist you. If so, I'd be interested in discussing possibilities with you.

Hope to hear from you.
