The Ultimate Amazon Thread Mark 2 - Q/A - Good/Bad

I have a question about subdomains. Instead of using subdomains for stores what do you think about using them as categories?

Example:

Reviews.com
Cellphone.reviews.com

Or would it be better to use categories as subfolders: reviews.com/cellphones

Im planning to try and make an authority site for reviews while making targeted sites like you have graciously layed out for us.

Awesome thread, i would like to ask about content.
When you find a good keyword, how do you research what people are wanting for that keyword?
How do you get the idea what to tell the reader or advise them?
For example (random) "best tablets in 2013"

Honestly I would not use SubDomains - I'm not sure about categories though - so it's up to you -- it's hard to comment on something I haven't done.

Content - I feel like I have explained this alot -- its one of those things you understand it now - or your going to have to fall back onto a keyword tool if you don't.

It comes down to this -- if your buying a $1000 product what do you want to know about it before you buy it.
 
I also wanted to add one thing more to the tried/failed part of this thread.

* Fresh Store Builder - most people know the guy stole my affiliate commission by replacing his affiliate ID for mine - and when I found it he promised to pay me - but then came up with 20 excuses not too ----- but anyway moving on .... after all that --- these sites are like the Magento Sites -- they sell for a while then Google just sees right through them and your sites disappear.

It's just Google has become alot smarter to the ready made - designed to sell sites and it's not possible to build a long term business with them .. for some reason - Wordpress done properly can avoid the same type of fate -- so I'd suggest sticking with it - and don't put your money into the others.

I have an amazon store and I just used pinterest to promote the products and luckily I made almost $25 last December. Its not that much but having pinterest still works.

Thanks for the amazing share. Right now I have 4 simple amazon stores and some of them are ranking with some keywords but no visitors, what do you suggest that I need to do ?
 
I have no idea if it would work or not - probably the question is cost vs sales -- as you can see you do have to sell alot to get anywhere and to get your commissions higher.

How much content is on those sites - your going to need 5 -7 pieces of unique content to get anywhere in the longer run - and I would add more later.

those sites were just example sites I got from searching a couple keywords in Google - I make no claims that they are good sites - have done things correctly
at all - I have nothing to do with them .... so if they do something agst the TOS then they will get banned eventually.

all I said was look - check these out see how they are set up - read my ideas and then implement ... certainly I was not saying anywhere to BH Amazon.

Can I add the content as pages ? Its an autoblog similar to machinelord's method.

Hi Danny, I am just wondering what themes you would suggest for someone Starting with WP. In your old thread you mentioned the use of HeatMap theme and now you prefer magazine themes,for someone who is fresh and starting their campaign like me which theme would be the better choice? I like the magazine themes but worrie I would spend too long tinkering trying to get the best, and not actually actioning anything!?

Also I have seen WpRobot and other autopost tools, do you still use these? If so do you use unique content?

What I was thinking is if this or other tools could be setup on a schedule where I input the unique content, and then the plugin would auto post this- when I want and also include product image and reviews pulled from amazon, that would be great! Is this possible? Thanks as always Danni

* if its a 100% autoblog it will eventually fail at some point - like I said the few shortcuts I've tried never lasted very long - so I wouldn't think that would either

* well my themes are heavily modded - if you start today I'd suggest the review/magazine themes I posted because most of the work is done for you there.... I know they take abit to learn / set up - but there's a reason to use them - they organize your site - they look more professional/trustworthy and if your selling $500+ products you want people to click on things.

* Autoposters I use to help set up the site - so I have the post to add my stuff too - but its up to you whether to do it that way or manual .... honestly try to steer clear of relying on scraped stuff the best you can .. so use Amazon image in the Sale Part but not for articles get istockphoto type images for those -- also use your own buttons / text links don't use default autoposters ones.

You see the reason I'm suggesting doing it this way - is I'm trying to give you the best chance to be successful for the long haul -- you start cutting corners and taking shortcuts - then you take more risk - and in this that's not the best way to go. It's true good content is more important that site set-up -- but still I want every visitor to click around my site - more chance for a Sale if that happens .. if my site sucks then people just leave and no chance for a sale then ---- also as I have said Google seems way smarter lately in picking up - cookie cutter type sites ...... so attention to detail goes along way.

I currently have two Amazon sites semi set up. I am interested in building these two small sites into profitable authority sites, however alot of my IM ventures in the past have not had the level of success I expected or hoped for. I like the idea of high quality Amazon sites, however I heard you have to spend 2-3 months to see any earnings. This is is a huge discouragement to me, however how can you tell your site is actually going to make money later on? I don't want to invest money into SEO and article writing for two months if I'm not 90% sure I will reap benefits in the future. So basically, how much money on SEO / number of reviews, should have you before you start seeing profits. It seems that not all of your sites will succeed, I just want to know how to tell which of your sites are going to succeed and which will fail after a set period of time. I don't want an exact number, just an estimate or an idea.

Also is it best to outsource SEO or not? I have tried to manually do SEO on several different occasions, but haven't had alot of success. Has anyone tried to outsource SEO to BHW and if so, have you had success?

Has anyone else experienced success with using Squidoo and Amazon Associates? I earned about $300 in December from lens Amazon Associate and wonder if there was anyone else I could exchange strategies and tips with. I haven't had so much success lately.

Finally, anyone know the best way to find an inexpensive mentor? I don't earn that much.

Heres an interesting question, do you still get affiliate earnings if someone buys one of the second hand items in market place?

Also what do you find is the best for menus? Do you use the brand names, specific things like sizes?
 
I think my questions kind of mimic ernies above. One of the first things I did when I decided to venture into IM was set up an amazon account and have made a few hundred dollars from it in the last two months so Amazon has piqued my interest. You also touch on something I learned from lead gen in my previous business which is great content + constant attention= traffic. I think I let a site go a year with no attention from me before it fell off page one, now two years later it still shows up on page one from some long tail keywords.

Enough rambling

would trying to build out ten of these sites at once be too much?
do you use a different persona for promoting each site? (does john smith promote the router site and john doe promote the power drill site)
During that first three months how much time do you spend a day building links?
I have been trying to get klout for merkins for a year now, do you think that would be a profitable niche? (totally kidding hope you laughed after googling merkins)

I am sure I will have more questions as you go on, thanks so much for this.
 
* You never show your money sites of a successul niche - because it will be packaged and sold as a WSO - and all of a sudden you have 100 direct copies of your site and competition goes through the roof -- in IM it seems for every 1 person with good intentions there are 5 around the corner trying to screw with you somehow ... it is always wise to be protective of your income streams.

* Here's the thing - you can do it for the cost of a domain/hosting and some captchas and do all the writing yourself - or you can invest money to make money. I can't tell you what to do - you got to decide if you want to participate or not - I can tell you this is how I structure mine and this is the result - but there are no guarantees of course

..... I'm not sure you need to outsource much except perhaps the writing -- Seo is not hard for the first few months so I would do that myself.
..... If you do outsource when you see people saying 10,000 Blog Comment 10,000 wiki blasts -- just realize what that is - its more of a short term strategy than a long term way to go -- and there are risks involved in going that route.

* I've never noticed commissions from Second Hand Items - but I have seen people buy a bunch of sex stuff non related to my sites
* As far as just adding pages to a site with just Sales stuff in relation to the other method - I'm not sure that would work - as Google as guidelines of all kinds of stuff and they are looking for content on the front page -- so yeah technically its possible - but playing it safer a different template and structure is better longer term.
* menus - I use something that people would be expecting 6 inch 9 inch 12 inch 18 inch -- small / medium / large / xlarge --- normal things like that.

* No this is a business - I'm not spending 10 hours a day 30 days a month on this -- it is driven by Sales - more Sales more time I spend - on a normal day with my UBots and CMS Commander I spend
30 minutes to 60 minutes on this and that's it ... so your talking $80-$90 an hour minus costs is what I get back ...

I just got another VPS yesterday that I'm running soley for AMF and YLH.
* The most time consuming thing is loading articles and adding links - but I just create text files with the pages of the sites and copy/paste etc etc - so my time spent is really well organized now.

Yes of course it takes a while to get a smooth/efficient process going and you can't learn everything in a day ...... but the sooner you get started get it figured out the sooner you get the cash in the bank.

I need to get to work now - so will check back a little later.
