100% agreed on materialism not defining success or happiness. Agreed, but my guess is that type of thinking and mindset is in the minority in this industry .

Gotta say you're dead on about re-investing especially when big $$ comes flowing in. Re-invest when business really picks up, why squander the opportunity to buy a 60 inch TV (instrant gratification) over exponentially growing your business.

What does "have a life" mean to you?

I have a hell a lot of a life.

I leave on a beach in Australia (the pic in the post is taken not fat from my place)
I work on my own terms
I have all the material stuff I need (the thing is I don't need much)
I am fitter and healthier that I was at 20
I have amazing relationship with my wife of 13 years
I have a daughter that loves me

What else do you need?

Good question.

I think many people go into business, making money and stuff in pursue
of happiness.

Here is my take. Happiness is a positive emotion and, as any emotion, it
can be there all the time. It comes at goes.

It is better to say, I feel content.

I am not anti-materialistic as such.

There's nothing wrong with going crazy, living in mansion, driving Ferrari, having a collection of
Rolex watches or whatever. Enjoy it if you want.

What's wrong, in my opinion, is doing all of the above for reasons other that your personal
enjoyment, especially when you can't afford it.

If I am going to buy Ferrari, I am going to go there and write a cheque. And it won't even
make a dent in my bank account. And I am going to buy it because I want a fast ride, not
because "only those with Ferrari are the ones who made it". This is the way to do it for me.

BTW, I omitted the part when I came to Australia with a family in 2005 with less than
a month worth of money which I borrowed and had to pay back ASAP.

We slept on the inflatable mattress which we borrowed from the guy I met on the
forum in empty room until we picked up some furniture on the street. We were lucky
there was a local council rubbish collection week when we arrived.

After that I appreciate simple things like have a bed to sleep in

God bless this country. Locals are the friendlies people ever. After a couple of
years someone told me people in Sydney are actually not friendly at all.
I was like, holy cow, if this is not friendly then what happens when I come across
a really friendly aussie

I like the whole country's attitude of not giving a crap about anything

Real estate is expensive though. Food is the same or cheaper than in Russia.
Coffee is cheap and amazing. It sucks. I got really addicted to good coffee here.

Beaches... Ahhh... What can I say... Blue bottles sucks though. And I hate
catching big spiders in the bedroom after the rainy night. Doesn't happen
often though.

If you can tolerate 9-18 hour flights to go places, Australia is amazing.

If you think Sydney people are friendly and laid back you should come to Brisbane.
You could bring the family up for Australia Day on the 26th and go the Story Bridge hotel for the Cockroach races. It doesn't
get much more laid back than that...

I share the same ideas. I don't want to spend so much on things that I don't really need. But my earnings on my first few months were used to give gifts to my loved ones. I hope by next month I can re invest whatever I have to have another site..
