BTW I am again challenging you if you can solve a problem of any one single user who posted above ? If you can do so, I will really appreciate and agree with you that you are really trying to improve your site in regard of both buyers and provider. Otherwise you are just making some false commitment to show that you and your site is right others all are just wrong.

Weird, I personally know almost a dozen people using Freelancer.com for 2 years now and they haven't faced any problems with it yet. I asked and told them about this thread and they're wondering "what are these guys doing differently from us?" Or maybe Filipinos are just that lucky?

I never used freelance.com so I have no comment about that but I suggest, try using Odesk. I am working with them since 2008 and I don?t encounter issue like that through paypal.

i have not had any problems with them till now they are good for me.but there are many scam users in that site and freelancer identifies them and bans them(i bidded a scam project unknowingly and in 24hours or less they banned him and emailed me that he is a scam)

not against anyone's view this my view of them.

Come on guys do you "mattbarrie" is freelancer.com CEO a site that deals with millions of $ and he is taking time to answer here. He may be worked for freelancer.com but not the CEO and this show the level or trust you can have in the company. He always say that fraud stuff, but look at odesk, guru, elance they are years ahead...

Stop protecting that site. How come nobody talks crap about Elance.com ? Yes, there are some fake scam alerts over the net but I guess that's the work of Freelancer.com work force.
He didn't show his face, he just came to say how they are not a huge Scam operation, even tho that's what they are. Period.

It's really interesting that all you guys with shit load crap of Stars and Mod rights defend this site even tho all of us, regular BHW members, think that this site is....well, I am not going to say the word Scam again, but yeah, prety much sums it.

I am not defending FreeLancer site - just want to see it succeed with real feedbacks from others here, which is considered as the best thing for BHW community.

If that guy here of FreeLancer is making the real changes for better - that will benefit BHW community, we are all for it.

Next time, you need to be careful of how you write. Trust me...if you ever say the bad things about Mods (who earned their reputation for being great) will earn you bad reputation and nasty backlashes.

Freelancer.com was great until they started charging project fees that cannot be returned or refunded if the project was cancelled or not completed. They will charge you project fees even if the employer disappears or decides not to continue with the project.

I have experienced this one and I was charged $40 after the employer refused to continue with the project. Good thing I didn't link to my Paypal account or else the money would have been taken from my account. I never returned to Freelancer.com again.

One of the best alternatives - odesk. Of course anywhere on such marketplaces there will be some fees, its fine, only thing you should be aware is working with other users, they can scam you anywhere. But based on our team members experience , there are a lot of good clients.

Depends. If you are selling your time, then it may work fine, for you. However, if you are selling anything that involves IP, then you had better read the T&Cs, very carefully. The project owner owns everything you produce. That's fine, except they are not paying anything close to the value of the IP. So, for the stuff I do, odesk is not an option.

Kudos for showing up here.

I can go on all day about the crap on your website, but it's your website and you can do what you want. As long as the basics work for me I'll use it.

I have one major gripe that I'd air as I think sorting this out would do wonders for the site's image.

I tell new clients to set up projects of FL or Elance. But when they take a look at the postings of FL some of them run because your site looks as shady as, well BHW sounds. "Accounts for sale", "FB Likes for sale", etc etc.

Things have improved massively since the days of getafreelancer, but the site still looks like the underbelly of the internet.

You allow these postings. The fact that they get blocked down the line doesn't solve the image problem. You have options so that these projects can be reported by "good citizens" but in my experience, that's a bullshit feature, that doesn't lead to any action.

I appreciate that it may be difficult to know for sure if some of the projects are illegal, but when a project is called "100000 Facebook likes wanted", well how hard can that be?

I appreciate the irony of discussing this on BHW : )

Even if it isn't, (I think it is he, but who really knows) It's clear that they have access to FL details about some of the gripes people are voicing here. If some good comes from this thread, that's all good.

Sure this is a marketing step because this is going to have SEO impact, but what a way to handle something that could go really wrong otherwise. Excellent! You guys doing reputation management should take a lesson here.

Guru looks like they are in a death spiral rather than being years ahead of anyone. Elance is cool. For me odesk is a waste of time. ymmv

Yes, the irony

Buying fake accounts, fake reviews and fake likes is explicitly banned and we will remove these projects as we see them. However there are grey areas- buying 1,000 likes does not necessarily mean they are fake. There are plenty of ways in which a legitimate marketing program can deliver them.
So it's not easy, we have to balance pulling these projects down with "why did you delete my project (#*$"
