Should I use multiple domains to position one main site?

Hi, I want to position a new site /platform which sells a specific service provide inhouse (no advertising) and targeting about 10 keywords. But I also own 7 good domains that each one include in the name 1 of the 10 keywords I want to target.

My question is if it would be a good strategy to use this 7 domains as blogs/information sites each focused exclusively in the keyword contained in the name? and add banners or links to redirect visitors to the main site? I could then use the main site to target all 10 keywords but specialt the 3 not targeted by the other 7 domains and of course use it as the platform to provide the service.

May be this doesn't make any sense, i tried finding info here and in the web but cant find any... I'm new to this so I don't know if this strategy could be good or I would be better of just trying to position the main domain for all the keywords? Implications, cost, advantages, etc not sure if it would be worth the extra work??

The keywords are spanish and haven't got lots of competitors but each one have some very strong players at the top of google which will be very difficult to beat, that's why I thought may be this strategy could work.

How would you do it? Any advice would be HUGELY appreciated. Thanks everybody!

what you're talking about is common practice at higher levels of SEO. Diversifying your traffic generation and protecting it via multiple assets. You have to consider whether you send traffic to your main site or a separate domain, so that there is no connection between the two from a ranking perspective though. These networks are more about traffic/leads. If you start interlinking for rankings then you have to consider a different set of rules as you're then creating your own 'network' in essence.

Thanks jascoken great article! I would like to create these multiple domains to increase traffic in the main page which is were the platform to provide the service is hosted. But from what I read google could see it fishy if I link directly to the main site... Would this be the case even if I only have one domain/site per keyword (the article talks about multiple sites per keyword)? How could I direct visitors from the small sites to the main site without risking the entire operation?

I can't answer that; too many variables! But I never link directly to 'core/brand' sites - unless I'm using different tactics entirely for network/link building. If it's lead/traffic-gen then I want these sites to be independent and actually compete with my main domain for leads/traffic; so they look like different companies/business entities. In some markets I'm in, I'll get 4 leads from 4 separate domains, from the same customer. But guess what; I've got that market cornered, because I get the vast majority of any customer contact inititated.

...Like the article says; by using separate 'not-indexed' sites as a buffer. So the lead-gen sites never actually connect with the main site. Large corporates do this all the time. When you click for info/free-guides/contact etc. etc., you'll be bounced to another domain (with exactly the same look/style/CSS etc. as the initial site - usually a sub-directory or sub-domain mini-site) which is not even indexed in Google (and actually Google/SE blocked). This will often have a name like 'XYZAnalytics.com' - and looks like a typical corporate web-analytics/counter site. Then you do what you need to do! You can have dupe content and good sales copy etc. here, as you're not indexing/SEOing it. It's a sales/data-capture page.

This is a much more low-level/simpler 'grey-hat take' on using cloaked/redirected sites and shadow-domains etc. (which is fairly 'black-hat'; if you believe all that white/grey/black-hat difference BS. For me, SEO is performed at the level required to get results: I don't care what Google 'labels' it.) It reduces it to non-cloaked, multi-domain ownership. These mini-domains have very little chance of being de-indexed; if they're built/fed properly.

Wow Jascoken i really appreciate your detailed reply!! Very impressed with your experience, obviously you are talking the idea I presented to a new level!! I was just thinking of having 7 small blogs each heavily targeting with quality content one specific keyword, to get traffic and redirect it to the main site... Considering that a) the main site is well SEO and with many inbound links from other well ranked sites, and b) the small state of 7 sites each target a different keyword and is updated weekly with new 100% original relevant content. Do I still need to use a buffer site or could I just link the 7 blogs to the main site?
