I am commenting from Jail. I have got life imprisonment. There are many other members who are under house arrest for using blackhat. Don't open the door. FBI can land on your door any moment.
On a serious note, why do people always consider Blackhat as something which is illegal? It truly appalls me. The forum where you're right now, is one of the best things to have happened in the Internet marketing. I am serious as I say this.

Yes, people have gone to jail for their internet marketing. Kim Dot Com, founder of megavideo, comes immediately to mind. I know some of the developers of twitter tools have been sued... I have't followed those cases enough to know if they were jailed or not. It all boils down to who you mess with. Don't mess with twitter, Hollywood, craigslist, or anyone else with the means and motive to sue you.

Common guys, my question was not "Is blackhat SEO illegal". I just wanted to ask that is there anyone who got jailed because any black hat stuff? Not everyone is from the same country, every country has different rules. I know a guy who got jailed for 6 months, he was into profile backlinking and mass mailing.

Kim Schmitz was arrested on various counts. He used to brag himself to be responsible for the Internet revolution. However, he committed various crimes. Money laundering was one of them. I think you mixed up two different things.

Blackhat is not Illegal unless you create your own definition for the same. Techniques shared on this forum are legitimate. All the illegal stuffs are either deleted by mods or they crash land on high level forums like Warrior and DP. I agree that every country has its own law, but I am yet to come across a country which has made using Blackhat a criminal offence.

The worst thing that would happen is that your site will get deindexed. You can go to jail or you can get sued if you mess with the trademarks but then you have an option to giveaway the domain.
So the basic rule is not to mess with the big corporation or do not sabotage any company with your blackhat tactics.
Some of the blackhat tactics that can lead you to Jail in some countries are related to copyright I guess but that's rare and we on blackhatworld do not preach anything illegal. The worst thing we can face is a Deindex..nothing more

Kim Dotcom was charged with copyright infringement by the US government. He was a citizen of New Zealand and didn't break any local copyright laws. A lot of people think that if they follow the laws of their own country they're all set. That's just not the way it works, especially if you are running your operations through an ICANN domain.
People love to think that this forum is spotless. Yet this forum has a very open history of a ton of people getting into legal trouble. We can be ignorant and pretend it didn't happen. We can say it would never happen now - even though people are scammed here every day (see "Shitlist" in side bar). Or we can learn from the experiences of others. I'm choosing to learn from others.

But Kim dotcom isn't in jail. But it will probably be proven that New Zeland's Goverment agencies and police broke the law. He will get millions for damages from USA goverment as well. Dotcom's arest is an example of true terorism commited by USA goverment. There are many other examples of the same thing.
So he is in exactly oposite situation than being in jail
Actually he is launching Mega.co.nz and Megabox and this will finally murder audio recording labels.

Me personally NOPE and have worked very hard to develop a crystal-clear as whitehat as it can business plan these days. But unlike what other ppl might suggest YES there were ppl even on this forum that got caught in the past, no need to necessarily resort to very glamorous mega stars like Mega Kim and we're just not going to name drop here since it would be pointless. But for every newcomer in this field, with blood injected eyes to make da moneiz fast and discover the magic button that prints $$$ you just need to see which sections are not allowed today to put 2 and 2 together and know which fields might require to be extra careful... This post is not meant to be intimidating or anything, if you're new just do your due diligence: remeber there's NO world law and what applies in one Country might be different from yours or another and definitely YES IM can be a risky game to play if you dunno what you do.
