[Journey] - changing from Micro Niche to Authority site

If your MNS was hit with a penalty, I would look at resolving the problems with it before redirecting it to your new domain otherwise you are just asking for the penalty to be passed across. If you can't sort the penalty out then I wouldn't redirect it as it is likely to do more harm than good

Maybe that would be a wise move, but, I did this previously with another penalised MNS and it worked.

Besides, if it doesn't work, what was the MNS will now only be a very small part of the new authority site, so it's not as important.

Having said that, if this looks like it's failing, ill do as you suggest and buy an aged site:-)

Good luck bro, I have never targeted 5/6 kws per article, but it might work for you :)

Can you pm me with link to the services you like or probably will use?

Best of luck! Looking forward to seeing the template you pick.

Well I'm trying to make everything look natural, so I'm planning to write high quality article on a subject in the niche, say "red dress" then ill target red dress, red dresses, short red dress, etc on that page, - some high traffic, some low traffic keywords, once I add in some generic anchors, brand anchors etc, my profile will look nice and natural - and as I do this for each page, my domain backlink profile will be nice and diverse.

Yes, i have a nice list of services that work for me, depending on keyword competition.

Once I get started on some Seo, ill post services as I use them.

Update:

Just installed Wordpress, removed all demo content, and installed the following plugins:

all in one seo - only real customization is that I set it to automatically generate a description.

statcounter - so I can track visitors.

Contact Form by ContactMe.com - Nice easy contact page, I might change this later for something better - any suggestions??

BulletProof Security - Just to keep my site safe.XCloner backup - Just to protect my site from accidental deletion:)

For theme, I have decided to go with "The Beauty Salon - http://themeforest.net/item/the-beauty-salon/2676012 :-)

Next steps -

1.Redirect anything good from the old site - I have had mixed opinions about risking this, but Im going to try it:-)
2.Add some fresh content.
3.Create a twitter account.
4.Create a facebook account - not sure how best to do this, can I just create a new email address and brand new FB account (so as not to link myself)??5.Do some keyword+Affiliate product research.

Update: made some customisation a to the theme.

Added exclude pages plugin and custom text and php widget plugin.

-use these so that the third level of pages are hidden in the main navigation, but show in sidebar of the parent page - this way I can have some long tail articles but not show them on every page (because they will likely look a bit more spammy).

Ordered a few articles now, only 1 article and 1 blog post live at the moment.

Still not sure about 301ing the old site, I might 301 the whole site to one page relevant on the new site, just see what happens.

Subscribed and following along...

Quick question: what did you decide about your FB page? Are you setting up a whole new (fake) FB account, using your personal account as admin and building your FB page, or....?

I'm curious as I'm trying to decide what to do for my sites.

Best of luck!

Not decided on this yet. I'd rather create it completely separate from my real self, havent had time to look into the logistics though.

Update: Added some new content today - about 10 pages comprising of a few blog posts, but mostly articles that Im chucking in to the sites hierarchy - I think this gives the site a bit more depth and prevents it from having the general MNS signature.

I checked the old MNS sites anchor profile, and it didnt look too bad, maybe a bit over optimised, but I made the decision to redirect it and see what happens.

So I made a 301 rule to redirect everything from the old site to one sub page on the new site - this sub page is the parent page for the part of the authority site that deals with the specific niche that the old site was in.

Ill keep an eye on that section and see how it performs as the 301 backlinks get indexed.

Also, I bought a book on the subject matter today, I am going to scan in and OCR some content from the book to add to my site:)

Update: Everything is set up now and I am just letting the content get indexed naturally. Not done any additional link building yet.
Main keyword from my old domain is now ranking at #17 (was n/a on old domain).
Entire old (MNS) site has been perm 301'd to a sub page on the new site, and that sub page is the one thats ranking.

Waiting for some more high quality content from The Nix at the moment. Once that has arrived, I am going to order some services from BHW, also thinking about building some high quality web 2.0 sites myself, but Im waiting to see if this strategy works out well with another site Im using it on.
