Average Salary for a SEO/SEM marketer in US/Canada

When I was in Austria fibre was cheaper (a lot cheaper) than in the US... and you could get it anywhere. Good luck getting 100mbps in basically any US city at all. You also have a lot cheaper cell phone services.
I'm always shocked that people bitch and moan about European prices. France is outrageous as is Italy, but the Netherlands, Germany and Austria I find quite affordable. They're also fantastic countries so

I'm getting 100 mbps unlimited monthly traffic for like 11$/month (downloading on ethernet usually above 10 MB/s, constantly). It seems unreal to me when I hear people in US, Australia, South Africa etc (you know, "civilized" and "advanced" parts of the world) cheering for 1-5-10 mbps for like $60/month. I'd shoot myself if I had to use Internet that way, seems so '95 style. Then again, there's advantages and disadvantages everywhere.

Well Austria is more first world than the rest of the first world. Probably the greatest country in mainland Europe, so...

To those who are (or used to) working as a SEO specialist, what are your daily job like? Does your company actually allow you to purchase BH tools (such as scrapebox, senuke etc.)?

I am referring to the ones that actually work locally (not virtual assistant / foreign). Especially those who works in a 'marketing agency'.

I work locally in an office in North America for a SaaS company. My job title is "Search Engine Marketing Coordinator." I'm permitted to use whatever tools, resources and people I need to in order to reach the goals that we've agreed upon. This includes "BH" tools. I'm lucky that my CEO is a young entrepreneur, has a very open mind, and understands that a tool isn't right or wrong, it's how the tool is used that counts.

Even though my team & I leverage tools to achieve higher rankings, a competitor/Google wouldn't easily be able to tell the difference between a set of links we created or crap that naturally gets built by fans or customers of the company.

Lately, my days are spent as such:

- monitoring the metrics of my team (I have 4 people working for me, 1 in the office, 3 over seas),
- researching new information relating to the industry (I read everything I can get my eyes on that may teach me something or cause me to re-evaluate something that I believe to be true or solid),
- communicating with my team leader overseas (she manages the other 2... such a huge time saver for me),
- improving my link building methods and strategies,
- playing with BH tools (I own pretty much all of them... I have a very nice budget

I applied as a SEO manager in my country and they offered me $200 for ranking 10 sites on the 1st position, medium competition + work should have been done within a month, with no tools at all, crazy isn't it? Yea, Georgia is not the best IM country, lol.

What about something bigger. For example, if you work for say.. AT&T or Banks. I am sure they have a marketing team. In situation like this, where you probably dont talk to your boss directly, what do you guys do?

I would say even a decent SEO guy should make $50 - 100K, Good SEO guys should make $100K - 250K, and elite SEO guys should make upwards of $250K per year.

forget corporate SEO jobs...build your own business a year. $250k will be chump change if you do it right after a few years. and you'll have more time and flexibility

I'm on the planet where I've done work for some of the largest web sites on the internet, huge online diamond retailers, and doing SEO for other SEO firms lol, last one always amuses me a bit, but hey it pays extremely well...

For the time being, I just started working with the company. It's a design company with 5 designers, 2 programmers, 3 internet marketers including me (2 marketer for fb and 1 for SEO) and 2 admins. So far my daily job are focusing on:

1) rank the company's web with several keywords for local google.com
So this task, I'm using some BHT tools and some times outsource
2) Analyze google analytics
3) Analysis and make improvements for web conversion rate (eye mapping, heat map etc)
4) Research new keywords targeted every week or by seasoning
5) SEM as well especially GA and maybe change with others PPC or PPV program or media buy
6) Audit and analyze on and off page of the web especially on articles and blogpost for drive traffic

As for now, our plan is just keep the web in a good ranking on SERPS. And for the next plan, we'll provide SEO services for the others company and that is the time I'm waiting for...it might be more interesting and challenge as well.

Salary must depend upon the efforts they put for SEO but people have a good number of workers so they usually do not pay the amount that the Workers are usually deserving.
